Sadie’s eyes said everything. 💔
She curled into the darkest corner of her kennel, too afraid to lift her head. The air was cold, heavy with the sharp smell of metal and bleach. Every sound made her tremble — barking dogs, hurried footsteps, doors slamming shut. Somewhere along the way, she had stopped expecting kindness.
People passed her cage every day. Some glanced briefly. Most didn’t look at all. Sadie pressed herself tighter against the wall, as if she could disappear completely. Her food bowl stayed untouched; hunger mattered less than fear. Sometimes a soft whimper escaped her chest — quiet enough not to bother anyone — and still, no one came.
Days blurred into weeks. Each night, the lights shut off, and the shelter sank into darkness. Sadie lay awake, listening to the cries of other dogs echo through the room, wondering if this was all her world would ever be.
By the time anyone noticed her, Sadie had almost stopped believing that love was something meant for her. 🐾💔
