June 1 also marks a special day designated to honor the Sheltie - the Shetland Sheepdog! 🐾 This herding dog originated from the Shetland Islands near Scotland. They need a job or hobby to keep mentally stimulated and are highly trainable. Shelties enjoy dog sports like agility and obedience, both which are offered here by our trainer Kristin! Another service offered here is grooming which will be necessary due to their double coat. Who are our Sheltie lovers out there? 💖

💜 Geez Louise! What a lucky gal you are now. Thanks to your mom Debbie who shared your wild ride to health and your home sweet home for National Rescue Dog Day! 🤩
Debbie shared a picture of Louise from a day when she was being examined here. Louise was brought to our area by Debbie's daughter in law who does fostering in Texas. (Big thanks from us for doing that!)
Here's what Debbie shared:
"Louise had been dumped in a dog park with just a nasty leather collar on. Unfortunately this is often typical in that area of Texas, and I learned animal control officers typically go to dog parks after dark to get dogs left there. 😞
Luckily for us all, your hospital didn’t want to rely on earlier heartworm testing done on her while she was in the south. Louise was retested and was VERY positive for heartworm even tho we were told it was negative. In fact she had an enlarged atrium due to the heartworms!"

"She had an emergency during treatment where she collapsed. Again, you guys saved her by having an emergency vet there on Good Friday. Many thanks to your whole staff for taking such good care of our Weezer Geezer. She’s a big goofy lovable dork and we love her!" 🥰

Purebred beauties end up as rescues too. Meet Elsie, a gorgeous Newfoundland patient of ours! 😍 Her family rescued Elsie via That Newfoundland Place rescue in Connecticut in 2022 when she was 3 years old. They weren't sure what her early story was, but she was terrified to go outside when they got her. 😞 But with LOTS of patient training over several months (walk the driveway, then home, walk to house 3 down, then home, etc.) and she is doing GREAT. 🤩 Everyone in their neighborhood loves her, she walks everywhere now, and people who knew her when they got her comment on how far she has come. They love her to death and they are so happy to give each other a better life! 🐾 Thanks Shawn for sharing her story with us!
