🐾 A Day in the Life at Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue 🐾
— Where Every Senior Dog Matters 💛

Sunrise at the rescue means soft tails wagging, sleepy eyes blinking open, and the quiet shuffle of little paws on cozy blankets. Some dogs wake up ready for breakfast and belly rubs. Others need gentle encouragement and a little extra time — arthritis slows them down, but never their spirit.

Medications are carefully given, tiny bowls filled with just the right food (sometimes warmed, sometimes hand-fed). Potty breaks are slow and steady — we move at their pace here. No rush, no pressure, just love.

Throughout the day, our amazing fosters provide what these senior pups crave most: routine, kindness, and connection. Some dogs are learning to trust again. Some nap in sunbeams. Some toddle around the yard or ride along for errands — just to be near someone who cares.

Vet visits are part of life too — heart murmurs, bad teeth, lumps, bumps, and mysterious aches. But we face it all together. We choose comfort. We choose dignity. We choose love.

As the sun sets, everyone settles into their favorite spot. A soft sigh, a little snore, a gentle snuggle — and the peace of knowing they’re finally safe.

📣 A Friendly But Firm Reminder from Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue 🐾

When one of our dogs comes into rescue, they become family. 💛 Before we even think about finding them a forever home, we make sure they’re seen, known, and cared for. That means:

✅ Spending a few days getting to know their personality and needs
✅ Scheduling a vet appointment and creating a medical care plan
✅ Updating vaccines, spay/neuter, doing dentals (when we can afford it), and treating any medical issues they may have

We sometimes begin accepting applications early, but please understand: adoptions are NOT first come, first served. We choose the best home, not the fastest applicant.

Here’s how you can help us help you:

📌 Double-check your contact info on your application—especially your phone number. If it’s wrong, we can’t reach you.

📌 We won’t chase you down. If we call and don’t hear back, we’ll move on to the next best match.

📌 Nearly 50% of applicants don’t follow through—and if there’s a waiting period, that number jumps to 75%. Please don’t apply unless you’re ready and serious.

📌 Calling or messaging us demanding a specific dog? That’s a red flag. Kindness and patience go a long way.

We’ve been doing this for a while, and yes—our vet knows what he’s doing. If our care—including dentals, medications, or therapies—doesn’t align with what you believe rescue should look like, there are other organizations that may be a better fit. But telling us we’re “too generous” with the care of these medically needy seniors? That’s not the feedback we need.

💡 A quick reality check: If the adoption fee is a stretch, then the ongoing cost of caring for a senior dog may be too. These pups often require lifelong meds, frequent vet visits, and a level of attention that’s not for everyone—and that’s okay.

💬 And finally—remember, we’re all volunteers. There are only a few of us. Be kind. Be respectful. If you’re feeling frustrated, go look in the mirror and ask yourself some hard questions before messaging us. Then, you may call us but please think before you post negative comments on our page.

🚨 URGENT FOSTER OR ADOPTIVE HOME NEEDED FOR COOKIE 🚨
Cookie stays hidden in the bathroom and we need your help now. 💔

This sweet, 8-year-old senior girl has been through more than any dog should—tied up outside, fed spoiled meat, and left to survive on scraps of neglect. And yet… she’s still gentle. Still hopeful. Still waiting for someone to show her she matters. 🥺💕

Cookie is safe with us, but she’s not thriving. She’s scared, timid, and overwhelmed around other dogs. She desperately needs a quiet home with no dogs or just one calm, small dog—somewhere she can finally exhale and start healing for real.

She’s trying so hard. Learning potty training. Getting used to being indoors. Discovering that soft beds and kind voices exist. She wants to trust. She just needs time and space and someone who sees the beautiful soul behind her scared eyes.

Emilio Update – He's Coming Tomorrow! 🐾❤️

We have some wonderful news — thanks to your generosity and the current owners', we've raised the funds to bring sweet Emilio into the rescue! He’ll be joining us tomorrow and settling into a loving foster home while we get him fully evaluated.

Emilio is a 12-ish year old retired service dog who has been incredibly well cared for by his late owner's family. We’re grateful to have his veterinary records going back over a decade, and he’ll be seeing our vet next week. While he does have a heart murmur, along with hearing and vision loss, we are committed to giving him the very best care—just like he’s always known.

📸 We’ve added a few pictures of Emilio and his late owner, and we hope you can all see the deep love shared between them. It’s our honor to carry that love forward. This has been an incredibly difficult decision for the family, please keep them in your prayers.

We want to fully understand his medical and emotional needs before matching him with the right forever home, please be patient.

As we announced earlier, we’ve learned that the mass found during Candy’s recent vet visit is cancerous — and after consulting with a surgeon, it’s been determined that it’s inoperable.

Now we’re turning to you, our amazing community, with heavy hearts and hopeful spirits. Candy needs a hospice foster home in the Raleigh, NC area — someone who is home during the day, has no other pets, and can provide a quiet, loving environment where she can be cherished for however long she has left.

Friends, we need your help — not just to decide, but to make it possible.

Meet Emilio, a 12ish-year-old Bichon Frise with the soul of a gentleman and the heart of a loyal companion. But Emilio isn’t just any senior pup — he’s a retired service dog, trained to assist his blind dad with daily tasks, companionship, and unwavering love. 💛

When his dad passed away in August, Emilio went to live with family in Asheville. But now, his current guardian is facing serious chronic illness and can no longer care for him. Emilio is currently being boarded, and it’s breaking everyone’s heart — this loyal boy deserves to spend his golden years in a peaceful, loving home. Emilio is calm, affectionate, and beautifully trained. He’s gentle with children, great in the car, loves short walks, and just wants to curl up next to someone who will love him for the rest of his days.

We want to say YES to Emilio. We should say yes to a dog who gave his life in service to someone in need. But the truth is, we’re stretched thin. Vet bills, medical cases, and ongoing rescue work have drained our funds — and we simply can’t say yes without your additional help.

We are overjoyed to announce that Blondie has found her forever home! 💕 After surviving unthinkable conditions in a Raleigh puppy mill, this sweet girl will never know a dark crate again. She’s now safe, cherished, and surrounded by love.

Blondie was welcomed with open arms by Pattie and her husband, who recently lost their beloved pet. Their hearts had space for one more, and when they met Blondie, they knew she was meant to be part of their family. 🏡💖

With Blondie’s adoption, ALL of our puppy mill pups are now in their forever homes. From fear and neglect to comfort and care—this is what rescue is all about. 🐾✨

🌟🐾 Foster Appreciation Post – Thank You, Cheryl! 🐾🌟

We want to take a moment to send a HUGE thank you to Cheryl, who has been an absolutely incredible foster mom to our sweet boy Lucky over the past few months. 💛

When Lucky’s owner had to enter a rest home due to failing health, Cheryl stepped up without hesitation. She welcomed him into her home, gave him the love and patience he needed, and helped him adjust to a new chapter of life. With gentle care, long walks, and plenty of carrots (his favorite snack 🥕), Cheryl helped our chunky little guy shed some pounds and gain confidence.

Lucky thrived under Cheryl’s care – and we know he’ll miss her dearly, along with his furry feline foster sibling. 🐶🐱 But now Cheryl is moving to be closer to her own family, and we know they are lucky to have her near.

Cheryl, thank you for being so loving, giving, and attentive to Lucky’s every need. You’ve made a lasting difference in his life, and in ours. ❤️
