Custom Dog Training

Custom Dog Training Dog Training Dogs are our friends. They are dependent animals living in our lives. They are not little furry children. Job possibilities are endless.

Instead, they have the dignity given them by their breed. They are dogs, domesticated to such an extent that they cannot live well without us. They are social creatures, and we invite them to join our pack. Once that occurs, our responsibility grows enormously. Not only is it ours to feed them, but to feed them responsibly, provide medical care for them through our Veterinarians, find appropriate

exercise for them, train them so they can be good citizens in our households, and even provide jobs to lend dignity to their station. It is not necessary for them to hold the highest calling, perhaps, that of Police K9, but any of our dogs can be given jobs: Sit before meals, come when called, learn to abide by simple rules so that children or older adults might be comfortable visiting them or run with us as we jog. These lend dignity. Respect your dog so that he will respect you.

When we punish dogs for growling, even if they're growling at our child, we aren't helping them feel better about whatever it is that is threatening them. Instead, we are teaching to stop letting us know when they feel unsafe.

The result? A dog who stops giving us warning signs and "bites out of the blue."
And, that's how we create dangerous dogs. I'd much rather have a dog growl and tell me they're upset (so we have a chance to intervene and help them) than a dog who just bites without any warning signs.

IF DOGS COULD WRITE ….A BILL OF RIGHTS

Dogs are held captive in our human world but and are not born to understand our human ways.

We expect so much of them. We expect them to know, conform and behave in ways that are “acceptable” to us.

So many dogs are subjected to force, punishment, intimidation, aversive tools or outdated training methods as humans attempt to change and control them.

There is nothing admirable, ethical or intelligent in physically or emotionally forcing any sentient being to comply.

Take the time to learn and understand how they communicate, their emotions, their needs and use updated, modern, scientifically based methods to modify unwanted behaviour.

Guide them with understanding, with patience, with compassion and kindness.

If dogs could write a Bill of Rights, these are some of the things I believe they would want us to know.
