Merced Applegate Zoo Founded in 1962, the Applegate Park Zoo is a home for many local species as well as animals from far away.

We strive to give each animal in our zoo the best care possible. Most of our animals are rescued.This page is updated by the zookeepers at the zoo.

Ahoy matey! Calling all Mermaids and Pirates down to the Merced Applegate Zoo for some fun in the sun. Join us in August on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm for a pirate's bounty of activities.

Please note that the event starts the second weekend in August on the 9th.

Stop by today and gain some Earth Day knowledge while on your stroll around the zoo!

There will be information tables, a fun craft, and a free lupine plant while supplies last and so long as weather permits.

The zoo is open from 10am to 4pm with our event running from 12pm to 3pm. We hope to see you soon!

Hey every bunny! The Zoo will be closed on Sunday, April 20th for Easter!

We wanted to let you know the zoos schedule for the next week:

Thursday, April 17th through Saturday, April 20th - OPEN 10am-4pm

Sunday, April 20th - CLOSED
Monday, April 21st - CLOSED

Tuesday, April 22nd through Sunday, April 27th - OPEN 10am-4pm

Next week has even more opportunities to enjoy the sunshine and visit the zoo!

We will be open Tuesday, April 22nd and Wednesday, April 23rd in addition to the regular Thursday-Sunday days of operation.

Stop by and say hi to our animals including Ike the Turkey Vulture who is pictured here. Ike and his roommate Mike were both brought to us due to injuries that prevent them from flying as turkey vultures do in the wild. Did you know that Turkey Vultures have a finely tuned sense of smell that allows them to find their food while soaring?

Help us find our missing zoo sign.

We are heartbroken to share that our recently installed Applegate zoo sign has been stolen. We need your help. This sign wasn’t just for the zoo—it was for the families, school groups, and visitors who have a passion for our zoo and rely on it to find their way. If you know anything or saw suspicious activity, or if you live near the zoo and have a security camera, please contact Merced PD at 209-385-6905. Let’s keep our community spaces welcoming for everyone!

The Merced Applegate Zoo will be closing at 3pm today, but the Valentine's activites are still in full swing with a cute Valentine's themed craft!

Visit the zoo animals from 10am-3pm and then settle in at home for the big game. 🏈
