✨Patient Success Story✨

Meet Jasper❤️ He presented to our emergency room after being near an explosive fire that took place in a barn by his house. It’s believed that Jasper was outside the barn when it happened.

After a thorough examination, it was found that Jasper had developed corneal ulcers in both his eyes and there was concern for smoke inhalation. He was initially placed on oxygen, and after spending the night, was able to be fully weaned off!🌟

The following day, Jasper was able to go home and be reunited with his family! We were all happy to see him make a full recovery, and wish the same for his human family members who were also caught in the fire.

One of the simplest ways to monitor your pet's health is by knowing what is normal for them.

A healthy dog or cat at rest typically breathes 15 to 30 times per minute. Counting your pet's breaths while they are sleeping or relaxing can help you spot changes early.

Breathing problems can become serious quickly. Knowing your pet's normal breathing rate can help you recognize when something is not right.

National Immunization Awareness Month

Vaccines are one of the most effective ways to protect your pet from preventable diseases and help keep them healthy throughout their life.

Staying up to date on recommended vaccinations can reduce the risk of serious illnesses and help protect other pets in your community, too.

If you're unsure whether your pet is due for vaccines, talk with your primary care veterinarian.

⛳ New Traditions⛳

Next to WVRC Ozaukee is a neighboring golf course. One tradition we have started since moving into our new building, especially during the warm weather☀️, is collecting the golf balls we find when we walk dogs outside!

Our collection is still growing, but we'll see if we can fill our jar by the end of the summer!🐾

🐾 Lunch and Learn🐾

Our WVRC Ozaukee emergency team recently underwent in-person training to become RECOVER certified!🫀 RECOVER is the internationally recognized CPR training and certification for veterinary professionals and pet owners.

The team refreshed their knowledge by reviewing and running through different emergency scenarios. We send a thank you to WVRC Waukesha's Dr. Alessandrino, Kelsey, and Maddie, who are all RECOVER-certified trainers!

🦈 It's Shark Week!🦈

While we don't treat sharks, we do see plenty of pets with a bite-sized sense of adventure! Here to celebrate is our hospital land shark, Gemma, who loves to pounce on us with her happy-go-lucky attitude.❤️

Share a photo of your "land shark" in the comments-we'd love to see them!🐾🦈

When is limping an emergency?

Not every limp is minor and in some cases, it can signal a serious injury that needs immediate veterinary care.

Limping should be treated as an emergency if you notice:
• Sudden inability to bear weight on a limb
• Obvious swelling, deformity, or an awkward angle to the leg
• Crying out, extreme pain, or aggression when the area is touched
• Suspected trauma (fall, hit by car, or rough play injury)
• A limb that feels hot, cold, or looks significantly different than the others
• No improvement or worsening over a short period of time

If your pet won’t put weight on a leg or seems in significant pain, it’s safest to have them evaluated right away. Early treatment can make a big difference in recovery.

Why are wait times sometimes long?🕐

Our emergency hospital treats patients based on the severity of their condition-not on arrival time. Just like a human emergency room, pets with life-threatening emergencies are seen first.

Due to this, we cannot give you an exact wait time over the phone since it can fluctuate frequently.

What you can expect when you bring your pet in:
🐾 A technician will assess your pet shortly after arrival.
🐾 Your pet's condition may be re-evaluated if it changes while you wait.
🐾 We will keep you updated as often as possible.

Examples of critical emergencies include:
⚠️ Difficulty Breathing
⚠️ Active Seizures
⚠️ Severe Trauma (Hit by a car, major wounds)
⚠️ Collapse or Unconsciousness
⚠️ Severe Bleeding

Your patience allows us to provide lifesaving care to the pets who need it most while ensuring every patient receives the attention they deserve.❤️

🐾❤️ National Human-Animal Bond Day

Today we celebrate the incredible connection between people and their pets and the trust, comfort, and unconditional love that makes this bond so special.

From quiet moments at home to everyday adventures, our pets are family, companions, and a source of healing and joy in our lives.

We see that bond every day and we’re honored to help protect it when pets need care most.

If you have stopped by our front desk, then you have probably seen our fish tank.🐟

What most people don't know is that it is maintained by one of our CSRs, who brought the fish from her own personal tank! There are a total of 11 guppies and 2 algae eaters🐠

Our team has grown fond of our fish and even named a few of them, like 'Sushi' and 'Hotdog'. And of course, we can't forget our resident snail, Garrett!🐌
