"Ace" is our home-raised stallion by Shiners Ace, an own son of Shining Spark. He is smart as a whip, gentle, and built as a quarter horse should be. He was broke out as a two year old and has been ridden intermittently since. He is one that can sit for a year and then ride off like there was no gap in time.

His brains, talent, and gentleness are stamped on all of his foals with his offspring performing in ranch work, break-away, barrels, cutting, reining, poles, heading, and heeling.

Ace's sire is Shiners Ace, a NRHA money-earner who earned 10.5 AQHA points and his Open Perf. ROM. He is the sire to 22 money-earners and 28 AQHA point-earners.

Shiners Ace is by the legendary Shining Spark, who earned more than $62,000. Shining Spark has sired more than 1,300 foals with total earnings of more than ten million dollars. In 2002, he became the youngest stallion to capture the title of NRHA million dollar sire—a number that has only grown over time. Today, Shining Spark is the National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRHCA) No. 1 all-time leading sire and the NRCHA’s first three million dollar sire. He was inducted into the NRHA Hall of Fame in 2011 and became an NRHA four million dollar sire in 2013.

Ace exposed 10 mares in 2025 with 7 of them being our own mares.

Key info right now in ND regarding EHV. Prayers and thoughts to those who are affected by this. Our hearts break over the loss of great athletes and the impact this has on the industry 🙏🏼💔

The North Dakota State Veterinarian’s Office has been made aware of an outbreak of Equine Herpes Virus (EHV)/ Equine Herpes Myeloencephalopathy (EHM) in horses that were at or associated with barrel racing and rodeo-type events in Texas and Oklahoma. Several cases of EHM have been confirmed in Texas and Oklahoma associated with these equine events, with numerous reports of additional cases and equine deaths pending investigation.

We do not have any confirmed cases of EHV/EHM in North Dakota at this time. Our office is coordinating with the affected states, and has received trace information from Texas and Oklahoma. Those North Dakota horse owners are being contacted directly and issued quarantines to mitigate further spread of the disease.

Horse Owners: If your horses traveled to Texas, Oklahoma, or other equine events where EHV exposure may have occurred, please contact our office directly at 701-328-2655. We will provide guidance regarding isolation and monitoring:

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture State Veterinarian’s Office may be reached any time at 701-328-2655.

Very blessed and thankful to receive this video of LXH One Time Cooper (Claude), LXH Shining Ember, and LXH Shiners Bess (Hazel) playing at their new home. These three LXH foals made their journey all of the way down to Mississippi yesterday.

Thank you so much to Boodle Phillips and Lorin Phillips for the purchase of these three. We pray they are as phenomenal as we bred them to be and so thankful to have added you to our Lazy X Heart Ranch family! We look forward to everything you two achieve 🙏🏼🤍

Also shoutout to the wonderful Denise Abbott for hauling them and ensuring they were perfectly taken care of on the way.

A cool one that was born on the LXHR. Check out LXH Cutters Ehli

Our Story

Raising AQHA Performance horses since 1977

Daymon and Lois Mills started ranching out of Lazy X Heart Ranch in 1977, originally they mainly had cattle, with quarter horses to tend them. Over the years, they have went on the focus more on breeding tried and true working horse bloodlines. A couple years ago, they received an award from the American Quarter Horse Association for raising colts for over 25 years.
