Who caught our littlest buddies on Steve Caporizzo's Pet Connection on WTEN last night? 🐾

We loved sharing some small-but-mighty cuteness, including guinea pigs Blaster and Darwin, rabbit Milky... and this sweet girl right here: Cassie! 🐹

Cassie is a 13-month-old guinea pig with a curious nature and a gentle, friendly personality. She enjoys exploring her space, munching on fresh veggies, and chatting with her adorable little squeaks. As a social gal, Cassie will need a guinea pig gal pal in her future home to truly thrive, and she’s ready to make a new best friend. 💕

Think Cassie might be the perfect addition to your family? Come meet her at the MHHS in Menands and see if she steals your heart like she did ours. 🩷

We’re feeling extra thankful today for Zen, an amazing 12-year-old with a huge love for animals! Zen donated $156.50 to MHHS, giving half of what he earns from his handmade crafts to help animals in our care.

Zen didn’t stop there, he also made paw-print keychains and a dog magnet just to brighten our staff’s day, which absolutely worked! 🐾

Zen, thank you for your kindness, creativity, and for thinking of animals who need a little extra love. You’re making a real difference, and we’re so grateful to you and your family for supporting our mission! 💛

Opening your home, even temporarily, can change countless lives. 💙

Fostering is an extremely rewarding and impactful way to help animals at MHHS, giving them the comfort, stability, and extra care they need while they wait for their next chapter. Some folks foster short term, some longer term, some foster only dogs or only cats, all of them make a difference for the animals and our team. 🐱🐶

If you’ve ever been curious about fostering, join us for Foster Care for Animals, a free, in-person seminar presented by our MHHS Foster Team.

📅 Saturday, January 24
🕚 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍 MHHS Community Room at 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY

This seminar will cover how fostering works, the types of animals who benefit most from foster homes, and the support MHHS provides every step of the way. There will be plenty of time for questions, and you may be surprised at just how much of an impact fostering can have.

🐾 Please note: this is a seminar, so please leave any of your furry friends at home.

⚠ Content warning: animal loss. We share because we need your help.

On the morning of January 12, in freezing temperatures, a tiny puppy was abandoned at MHHS.

The team member who found him wrapped him in care and named him Carlos after musician Carlos Santana.

Carlos was rushed into our veterinary team’s care. They fought to raise his body temperature and save his life. He couldn’t stand. He was soaked in urine. Still, he tried, even offering a few gentle, grateful kisses.

Our team did everything possible, but Carlos came to us far too late. Within hours, he passed away.

What matters — and what we hold onto — is that Carlos did not die alone. In his final moments, he was warm. He was held. He was surrounded by compassion.

We are deeply grateful to our Humane Law Enforcement officers and the Albany County Sheriffs Office for their swift investigation and arrest. This is the first step toward justice for Carlos.

Now, we ask for your help.

Our critical humane law enforcement work is funded almost entirely by compassionate supporters like you. Your gift today supports the pursuit of justice for Carlos and protection for other innocent victims. Donor support funds humane law enforcement, emergency medical care, and rehabilitation for animals who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned.

Because of you, we will pursue justice to the fullest extent of the law. Because of you, we will stand ready to support the next animal that comes through our doors. Because of you, what happened to Carlos will not be forgotten.

Thank you for standing with Carlos. 💙 mohawkhumane.org/carlos

After 924 days, more than 2.5 years, Jaxon is officially home. 💙

Today, one of our longest-term residents left the shelter with a family who already adores him, and our hearts couldn’t be fuller. To Jaxon’s adopters, thank you for opening your home and your lives to this very special boy. Watching him step into his next chapter has been nothing short of incredible.

A heartfelt thank you to our friends at Benson's Pet Center, whose video of Jaxon allowed his adopters find him. Benson’s generously sponsored Jaxon’s adoption fee, and thanks to the outpouring of support and shares, Jaxon will also be heading home with six months of his favorite dog food on them! He was especially thrilled to see one of his Benson’s friends today to wish him well on his gotcha day.

This moment was also made possible by a community that never stopped believing in him. Thank you to our dedicated staff, volunteers, fosters, and every single person who shared Jaxon’s story, advocated for him, and showed him love over the last two years.

We will miss our buddy Jaxon, but there is nothing better than seeing a dog who waited so long finally get everything he deserves. Thank you for being part of Jaxon’s journey, and for helping us send him off to the life he’s been waiting for. 🐾💙

When winter has you feeling a little “blah,” Ellen’s prescription is simple: fresh air, a little sunshine, and a long walk with your favorite people.

4-year-old Ellen spent a gorgeous day exploring Albany Rural Cemetery with her volunteer besties, and she was a total star! She hopped right into the car, settled in quickly, and once she realized we were there to stroll and sniff, she got into her groove and showed off that spunky, goofy side we love. 💛

She handled a day full of real-life moments like a champ: noticed other dogs (was curious but not reactive), didn’t mind passing cars, and made smart choices when the world got loud or busy. Ellen is also very people-social, happy to say hello when someone’s interested, and totally fine giving space when folks are occupied.

Ellen knows sit and paw, loves squeaky toys, and may do well with other pets with slow intros & a dog meet & greet to make sure play styles match. 🐾

Want to meet your new walking buddy? Come meet Ellen at MHHS in Menands! 🐶

Who caught Reesa on Pet Connection last night? 🐱

While she wasn’t on live with Steve Caporizzo, our friends at WTEN shared a fabulous virtual feature about her and we’re hoping it helps the right person find her. 💙

Reesa is a 6-year-old kitty who’s feeling shy about humans right now, but she genuinely loves other cats. She’s food-motivated (breakfast is her favorite time of day), enjoys treat time, and has a soft spot for bird and nature videos, music, and getting gentle scratches from a trusty back scratcher.

⭐️ A quick but important note: Reesa is FeLV+, which means she’ll need to be an only cat or go home with other FeLV+ cats. The good news is her health is well managed, you wouldn’t know unless a vet told you. What she needs most is a calm, patient home that will let her build trust at her own pace. She’s done especially well when she’s had a feline buddy, and being solo right now has been tough since her last friend was adopted.

✨ Reesa is also part of our Let Them Shine Feline Adoption Special: $26 adoption fees for our shy, feisty, and spirit cats through Saturday, 1/17. ✨

Let us know if you saw her on WTEN and if you think you might be her person (or you have an FeLV+ cat who could use a best friend), come meet Reesa today!

***UPDATE - Thank you all so much for coming through for our furry friends! We have been receiving many towels and we are so grateful to our community. We look forward to putting them to good use. You've all done an amazing job restocking our shelves.***

Bath time isn’t anyone’s favorite... but being clean, warm, and cozy absolutely is. 🛁🧼

Our animals go through a lot of towels every single day, for baths, bedding, clean-ups, and comfort. We sanitize and reuse them as long as possible, but right now our towel supply is fraying, thinning, and almost completely gone.

We are urgently in need of bath and beach size towels. Used towels are perfect, our animals don’t mind stains or discoloration one bit. New towels are very welcome and can be sent directly through our Amazon Wishlist.

These towels help us keep animals clean, safe, dry, and comfortable, especially after baths, during medical care, and stressful days in the shelter.

How you can help:
💙 Donate gently used bath or beach towels at 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY
💙 Send new towels via our Amazon Wishlist (amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/FEYTTX57KHQH)

Thank you for helping us care for animals like adoptable Jingle, and so many others, every single day!

Lewis recently headed out on a field trip with two of our amazing volunteers, and while he may not have been the boldest explorer of the group, he absolutely stole some hearts along the way. 💙

Lewis approached the day thoughtfully, taking his time and leaning on his trusted human buddies when things felt a little uncertain. With some encouragement (and a few well-timed treats), new experiences like tricky curbs, surprise noises, and unfamiliar sights turned into confidence-building wins. By the end of the outing, it was clear, Lewis is the kind of dog who forms deep bonds and rewards patience with his devotion.

This sweet, sensitive guy does best with calm guidance and a predictable routine. He’s much braver with someone he knows by his side and would thrive in a home with teens or adults who can respect his boundaries and help him keep building confidence. Lewis would prefer to be your one-and-only pet and already knows “sit,” with plenty of interest in continuing his training journey. 🐾

If you’re looking for a loyal companion who may start off shy but will quickly wrap you around his paw, Lewis is ready to meet you. Sometimes the most meaningful connections grow at a slower pace, and Lewis's love is worth the journey.

Come meet Lewis and see if you are the friend he has been waiting for! mohawkhumane.org/adopt/available/details/59808397

Azura is a certified goofball with a heart of gold and a love of snacks. 🧀💛

She knows sit, is happily food-motivated, and would love a human who’s excited to keep the learning (and treat-giving) going. Azura can be a little shy at first, especially if someone goes straight for face smooshing (tempting, we know). Give her a second to sniff and say hello, and she’ll scoot right in and soak up all the affection.

She may do well with other pets and would love to meet any potential dog friends to be sure it’s a good fit. Silly, sweet, and full of personality, Azura is ready to make you laugh every day. 🥰
