🫆Did you know, just like human fingerprints, every dog’s nose is 100% unique?!
🐶 Each nose has its own distinct set of ridges, creases and nostril shapes.
🐾 Because no two are alike, some organizations use nose prints for permanent identification, just like fingerprinting!

🦴Dogs are about as dynamic as humans are, so it is a key component to successful training to learn your pups unique communication needs, and style of learning. Decoding these are key components to reach their full listening potential in all types of environments.

Did you know dogs can hear 4x’s more than humans?
Which makes it even more impressive when they ignore you.
Most times they’re confused because dogs don’t generalize in situations so it might take them time to comprehend what is being asked of them.
I can help:
🐾I bridge communication gaps between pet parents and their pup, by fine tuning already known cues. We break the cues down to the basics rework out any habits that you or your pup have learned over time that is impeding them from being able to listen.
🐾Did you know dogs do not generalize behaviors, you have to teach them a behavior in the house then the backyard, front yard, on walks, in the car, in public places so they know how to listen and perform the cue in each situation.
🐾We then take each cue into different situations and environments graduating in difficulty working through the 3D’s at a pace that will stay with your pup.

Unfortunately the event tomorrow is canceled due to Mother Nature having different plans for our day.
Looking for something to do with your pup that’s indoors: Petco, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, all fun places to take your pup on a rainy day to give them environmental exposure and enrichment. Training inside the house, running them up and down the steps by playing the “Name Game” or “Come”. Have a great weekend!

Environmental exposure:
🐾Provide enrichment for your pup. If they aren’t used to being out at events. Here are some tips:
🐾Take breaks away from crowd so they can decompress and sniff.
💧Bring plenty of water, high value treats, 🐾Kong frozen with peanut butter (licking is calming), a puzzle toy you can fill (sniffing is calming).
🐕Watch their body language and reactions.
🐾To keep the experience positive for your pup, take them home ideally before they reach their stimulation threshold.
🚙Plan for your car ride: seat belt, car seat, in the back seat, do they get car sick, leave extra time so you’re not rushing them into or out of the car.
❤️ Patience for your pup and for yourself! You’ve got this!🙌 and most importantly have fun!

Unsure how to do this?

Teaching down to puppy Puck by using a lure:
-A lure: is a bigger treat they can nibble on that you hold in your hand. -Use the lure as a motivator to get their body into the correct position so you do not have to us any physical manipulation.
1-Place the Lure close to their mouth so they can nibble it, slowly move your hand back towards their body and slightly down. Done correctly their back legs will start to slide out from under them, their elbows will start to bend and they will slide into a down.
2-Once they are in the down position immediately reward with several smaller treats held in your opposite hand. Shower with verbal praise.
2-Trouble shooting: if you move too fast they won’t be able to follow your hand, go slow, have patience it might take a few times. Do this is in a quiet room with out distraction. Use a high value treat they are interested in, but not too high value that they are distracted by the treat. Try practicing on different surfaces.

Down has many practical uses in addition to teaching advanced cues such as go to place, the advantage of being used by your vet and at their grooming appointment. When a dog can be cued they won’t need to be physically manipulated, which can cause additional stress.

Bring your indoor training outdoors! Dogs do not generalize training cues. So you need to teach cues outside of the house so they can follow cues in all situations.
Tips:
Use high value treats, practice on pavement in the beginning and graduate to grass (more distractions), start outside in your backyard on leash (teaches them to listen on leash and takes less impulse control), bring your treat pouch (plastic bag sounds can be too distracting), cut up treats into small pieces (so they don’t get full), bring your patience (resist repeating cues & give them a chance to figure it out on their own), bring their favorite toy to make it fun and give them a break, sniff breaks.
Not sure how to successfully transfer your indoor training outside? I have you covered for this and more.

We have been working with Mater to overcome his fears of his new environment, he is a rescue. He is afraid of the car. This is his first exercise with this truck. We have worked with him with his other pet parents SUV. He is reluctant to jump up and hesitates.
Steps:
Start with the car off, with the pet parent in the driver seat, use high value treats to lure onto the passenger seat.
Here Mater made the decision to willingly jump up onto the passenger seat all on his own!
Goal:
Car fear extinguishing exercise:
Done at a pace that will keep your pup engaged. The exercises are accomplished in stages and we do not rush through any stage. Over time their fear of the car will decrease. Take them fun places like a pet store, park, dog park. Shaping exercises have multiple steps and take consistency, patience and practice.
Tip:
This exercise is done with no pressure, when you are not going anywhere, keep it short and a positive experience for your dog.

Not sure how to accomplish this? I am here to help. Reach out today for a free consultation. Together we can reshape your pups relationship to the car.
