Quite often people assume that because horses and livestock live outside, they are equipped to handle whatever crazy temperatures are thrown at them. 🐎🐂🐐🐑🐖🐓
This is not (always) the case. Giving your outdoor pets and critters extra attention during extreme weather - hot AND cold - is important, too. ❤️🩵
A simple way to help your horse (or whole herd) deal with the extremes is to provide plenty of fresh, clean water, along with salt (blocks are good) and supplemental electrolytes.
If sugar intake is a concern for your horse, be sure to look for a sugar-free electrolyte option. Many electrolyte powders can be top-dressed on feed, or mixed into their drinking water for convenience. 💦

PLEASE make sure your pets are safe and comfortable during these extreme temperatures. 🌡️
Squishy-faces (brachycephalic breeds) such as the Boxer, Bulldog (French, English), Shih Tzu, Pug, Pekingese, etc. are at an even greater risk for heat induced problems occurring very rapidly. 🐶
Do NOT delay if you suspect your pet may be struggling! Just a few minutes outdoors can mean life or death for some.
We are here if you need us! Be safe! 📞🐾

Do you have a horse who struggles with anhidrosis (when a horse loses its ability to sweat normally)? Are you on board with the dark beer method, or do you prefer a different option?

Believe it or not, the dark beer approach is quite common! However, reviews are still mixed on its effectiveness. 🐴🍺
