One of the coolest parts of this job is getting to watch your pets grow up — and grow old — right alongside us. 🥹🐾
I’m not out in the field nearly as often these days, so when I do get the chance to visit some of my old friends — the pets I’ve personally known and loved for years — it is SUCH a treat.
And this morning, that treat was Selise & Faith. 💚
I first met these ladies about three years ago, right around the time Selise joined the family. Selise was young, spirited, and VERY enthusiastic about absolutely everything. 😂 And while that personality certainly hasn’t gone anywhere, I’ve had the privilege of watching her grow up, settle into her new home and her life with her sister, and become such a lovely walking companion. Once we get through the initial OMG LORI IS HERE!!! celebration at the door, she’s actually a pretty chill girl these days.
And then there’s Faith — 14 years young and absolutely not interested in slowing down anytime soon. 🥹
I swear, Selise coming into her life gave Faith a little extra youthful glow. She still heads out for walkies with her sister every day, keeps right up with her, and is very much an active participant in all the fun.
But one of my favorite changes has been in our relationship.
Faith used to be a little more standoffish with me. She was perfectly happy to do her own thing and keep a bit of distance. Over the years, though, we’ve become buddies. Now she happily greets me at the door, gives me kisses, and genuinely seems excited to see me. And I can’t tell you how special that feels. 💚
That’s one of the things I love most about this work.
We get to go through life with your pets.
We watch the young ones grow up. We watch the seniors surprise us. We see personalities change, relationships develop, faces turn gray, and bonds deepen — including our own bonds with them.
And sometimes, years later, I get lucky enough to see a couple of familiar names on my schedule and think, Oh my gosh. I get to see my old friends today. 🥹
What a treat it was to spend my morning with these two ladies. 💚🐾
