🐾 Why Spaying and Neutering Matters 🐾

Every day in Marion County we see the heartbreaking reality of animals who were never given a chance simply because they were born into the wrong situation.

Unspayed and unneutered dogs and cats are the reason we see:
• Puppies and kittens dumped on the side of the road
• Mothers having litter after litter until their bodies are exhausted
• Dogs roaming the streets, getting hit by cars, starving, or fighting to survive
• Shelters and rescues completely overwhelmed

At Muva Rufferz Rescue Inc., we have already taken in 147 animals just since January 1st of this year and the Marion County Animal Shelter has taking 265 animals that is a total of 412 animals in just 71 days . — many of them coming from accidental litters or animals that were allowed to keep reproducing.

But overpopulation isn’t the only reason spaying and neutering is important.

🚨 Health Risks of Unaltered Animals:
Unspayed and unneutered pets face serious medical risks, including:
• Pyometra – a life-threatening infection of the uterus in females that often requires emergency surgery
• Mammary cancer in females that are not spayed
• Testicular cancer in males that are not neutered
• Prostate disease and infections in unneutered males
• Higher risk of infections and injuries from roaming or fighting

Spaying and neutering can increase lifespan and improve overall health for your pet.

⚠️ Behavioral Problems in Unaltered Animals:
Many behavioral issues are linked to animals that are not fixed, including:
• Roaming or running away looking for a mate
• Marking territory in the house
• Aggression toward other animals
• Fighting with other dogs
• Excessive mounting or dominance behaviors
• Loud heat cycles and attracting male dogs

These behaviors often lead to animals ending up lost, injured, abandoned, or surrendered to shelters.

Spaying and neutering:
✔ Prevents unwanted litters
✔ Helps reduce roaming and fighting
✔ Reduces certain cancers and health problems
✔ Helps improve behavior and stability
✔ Reduces the number of animals suffering on the streets

One unspayed female dog and her offspring can lead to hundreds of puppies in just a few years. That’s how quickly the problem grows.

Rescues like ours work day and night trying to pick up the pieces — feeding them, treating them, finding rescues and homes — but the real solution starts with responsible pet ownership.

💔 Rescue should not have to exist at the level it does.

If you love your pet, please spay or neuter them.
If you see someone struggling to get their pet fixed, help them find resources.
If you want to help the animals in your community, this is one of the most powerful things you can do.

🎉 BIG NEWS FOR MUVA RUFFERZ RESCUE INC! 🐾

We are beyond excited to share that our building will be installed this Thursday and Friday!

This moment means so much to us. What started as a dream — saving animals off the streets of Marion County — is continuing to grow into something bigger than we ever expected imagined.

Because of the support from our community, our followers, our donors, and everyone who believes in what we do… we are building a place that will help us save even more lives.

Every rescued dog, every late night, every bag of food, every $1 donation, every share, every volunteer hour. Thank you also to our big donors for making this possible … it all helped get us here.

We are so proud of how far we have come. From rescuing animals with limited space and resources to now building a real facility for them. This building will allow us to safely house more animals while they wait for their rescue partners and forever homes.

The past few weeks have been incredibly busy, and all of these sweet babies will soon be heading north to their families. A huge thank you to our rescue partner for always trusting us with your precious little ones.

As we move into the next few months, things will get even busier. We’re working hard on our Dog/Cat Food Drive and dealing with the county to get our building plans approved. Unfortunately, this means we are unable to take in any new animals right now. Bringing additional animals into my home has caused so much stress for my personal pets that they’ve become sick from it.

We will still be helping dogs and kittens get safely to other rescues—we just can’t take anything in until we have a proper space. Caring for 16–25 animals at a time is a lot, and I need to focus on securing our building and figuring out the finances.

This new building will make everything safer and more manageable for both the animals and for us. It will allow a proper two-week quarantine before they head north, which we urgently need. Since we don’t currently have enough help to run adoptions, our focus for now will be on getting dogs to safe rescues where they can find the homes they deserve.
