We would like to wish everyone a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend coming up!
We would like to notify our clients that in honor of the holiday, we will be closing Friday, May 23rd at 5:00PM and will reopen following our regular business hours on Tuesday, May 27th at 8:00AM. Please note, due to a shared call rotation, you will be transferred to Escanaba Vet Clinic during this time.

***We recommend all medication orders be requested by Thursday, May 22nd to ensure you are receiving medications prior to the long weekend with our 24 hours notice policy on refills. Please note that if medication orders are put through on the following Friday before the weekend, we can not guarantee medications will be approved and ready for pickup prior to closing***

Today marks National Parvo Awareness Day.

This day serves as a reminder to raise awareness about the serious viral disease, parvovirus, which significantly impacts our canine companions. This disease can be particularly devastating for puppies and unvaccinated dogs. However, through education and preventative measures, we can help safeguard our pets.

During your dog's annual examination, please remember to discuss your heartworm prevention plan, as well as your flea and tick prevention strategy. Please note that in order to purchase the medications available at our clinic or online (Nexgard, Bravecto, Heartgard, Interceptor), you must have a valid examination each year and some tests may be required prior to purchase.

Why do I need a 4DX prior to getting Heartworm preventative?
Administering a heartworm preventative to a dog without conducting a prior heartworm test can pose significant health risks, including potentially severe complications or even fatality. If a dog is already infected with heartworms, the medication may induce a detrimental reaction as the immature worms (microfilariae) in the bloodstream die off, potentially resulting in a shock-like response.

Why is annual testing important?
It is advisable to test annually for Heartworm, Lyme, Anaplasma, and Ehrlichia. Early detection enables timely treatment, reducing the likelihood of more serious and potentially life-threatening complications. Heartworm disease is transmitted to pets through mosquitoes, while tick-borne diseases are spread via bacteria from the tick while feeding. This test can be easily conducted in our office with a small sample of your pet's blood.

We went from Spring to Winter Wonderland in the span of a week! We like to remind all of our clients that even with the frosty conditions today, fleas and ticks are still prevalent as we have not stayed in a consistent temperature of 32° or lower.

We would like to remind all of our large animal clients that March is f***l month for your horses! As spring approaches, f***l egg counts (FEC) and deworming are the best things you can do in preparation for the spring grazing season which is when parasitical transmission is at its' highest risk.
