Ginger Snap needs a little help getting to her new foster home! 🏠

Our sweet disabled senior girl has an incredible opportunity to transition into a long term foster on a beautiful, quiet little farm. It’s a slower paced environment where she’ll receive individualized attention alongside her foster mom’s service dog. Her mom has extensive knowledge in her disabled care, and this is a huge win for Ginger Snap. She has not received a single application for foster or adoption since intake.

We cannot make this transition happen without some help…

We’ve put together a very specific wishlist of essentials Ginger Snap needs before she can move. Her new home has hard flooring, so rugs are especially important for her mobility and comfort. She also needs disposable diapers, little sweaters, and other items to accommodate her ongoing care needs during the cold season when she’s out doing farm chores with her mom.

Due to environmental sensitivities within the household, we do need to stick to the exact items on her wishlist. Everything has been carefully selected with both Ginger Snap and her foster home in mind.

Donations have been especially slow lately, and we’re really hoping our community can help us pull this together for her. 🧡🍁

These items aren’t optional. Ginger Snap cannot transition into foster care until we have the necessary supplies in place.

If you’re able to purchase something, please comment with what you’ve selected so we can avoid duplicates and make sure every essential is covered!

This is a wonderful opportunity for a little senior dog who deserves every bit of comfort we can give her. We’d love nothing more than to get her settled into her new home.

A little Salem update.

We’re still working through applications for this girl, and we appreciate everyone’s patience. We’re collaborating with someone who has extensive experience in canine nutrition and fresh feeding to develop a more individualized approach to Salem's dietary needs. It looked like she’s been suffering from allergies for quite some time before coming into care, so I’d like to get that dialed in first.

Salem has already made tremendous progress since arriving and we’re committed to making sure she’s feeling her absolute best before beginning her next chapter.

For now, she’s enjoying plenty of couch time and all the love she deserves. I’m normally not big on dogs on the couch, but she absolutely loves it and settles wonderfully and is the most deserving girl.

In the midst of some difficult days, we have a few exciting updates here at the rescue to remain hopeful.

Binx has a really promising meet and greet coming up! We’re hopeful this wonderful boy may be one step closer to finding his forever home. I’m so grateful for his amazing foster mom for supporting him when he needed someone most, and her and I will be traveling to meet his new potential home soon!

Our special Granny Gingersnap is also preparing to head into a long term foster home with one of my dearest friends who is so knowledgeable in her care. Ginger has been with me for quite some time, so this is an incredibly exciting opportunity for her where she will get to soak up all the love and attention on a beautiful slow paced little farm.

We’re also still sorting through applications for Salem! Please be patient with us as we work through them and determine the best fit for her.

It’s been a difficult time lately, but we’re grateful to have some positive things happening for the dogs in our care.

Thank you all so much for the donations for Champion, and off the wishlist for the other dogs while our team works through this grief of our beloved friends.

You are all so thoughtful, and I’m so grateful for each of you.

We just dropped off an abundance of dog food, treats, chews and pig ears to Champion with the donations we collected today to ease the grief of the loss of his foster mom, Meghan.

Thank you so much to Lakeside Cafe for offering meals for the family, and to everyone offering to cook, bake and spend your time making sure her family is cared for. I’m so damn grateful for this community and I love each of you.

If I haven’t responded, please give me grace.
I’m doing my best. I promise I’ll get to you.

Thank you so much.

Our hearts are incredibly heavy today. Last night, we lost one of my best friends, someone who meant so much to us here and who also opened her home and heart to foster our sweet Champion.

Many of you have offered to foster Champion since last night, but I refuse to rip him away from his foster dad in their hardest moments. They need each other now more than ever, so if you’d like to help, here’s how:

Today, we’ll be heading to the farm store to pick up a haul of dog food, toys, chews, and supplies for Champion and the boys to bring to her husband. We want to help take one less thing off his plate as their family navigates such a devastating loss.

Meghan wasn’t just someone who fostered for our rescue. She was one of my closest friends, and someone I spoke to every single day. Meghan and her mom, Sheila, will leave such a gap in this world. Being able to show up for her family right now means the world to me.

If anyone would like to help us support Champion and the boys today through their grief, we would be incredibly grateful for donations toward their food, toys, and chews to keep them uplifted. We’ll be purchasing everything locally today and delivering it directly to her husband, later today.

We’re also hoping to coordinate a few meals for her husband, because no Anthony, you cannot live off cereal. 😅

If anyone in our community would like to prepare a homemade meal over the coming days, please message us so we can help arrange everything and take it out to him.

Grief is overwhelming enough without having to worry about the everyday things. I want to do everything I can to make sure her husband and the boys are supported and cared for during this incredibly difficult time.

Thank you to everyone willing to help the people who stepped up for Champion when he needed it most.

Tonight, our rescue lost two beautiful souls.

If you’ve ever come to one of our events, Meghan and Sheila were probably there. When Champion needed a safety net for me to get him, they stood up immediately without hesitation and said yes.

Meghan loved Champion just as much as her other pets, and was so fiercely protective of him because of his past. Her mom, Sheila, was her best friend. They were rarely without one another and always the first ones to show up at our events and as two of my closest friends, the last ones to leave, making sure I didn’t need anything else.

Meghan was constantly gifting everyone with silly things, thinking of everyone but herself, going to every concert with the people she loved most and she had this way of living, despite her illnesses, like she knew life was short.

Sheila had a gift with dogs. Champion absolutely loved her, and Salem, despite being afraid of everyone else upon meeting them, danced around Sheila and acted like she had known her in another lifetime, so much so that I gave her the leash and they played and sat side by side the entire bake sale recently for nearly 6 hours.

They were both such a gift, and two of the most selfless and incredible individuals that I was lucky enough to know. We’re absolutely heartbroken.

Keep their family in your thoughts:
Her husband Anthony Lee Evans Jr. and little Champion, Henry, and Oliver their sweet cat that she adored.

You two will be so missed.

We love you into this life and the next.

Goodmorning from little Chai! ☀️ ☕️

One of Chai’s favorite pastimes is sunbathing on the back of the sofa like a cat watching the birds.

Chai has come such a long way since arriving at the rescue, and it’s been wonderful watching her get comfortable enough to enjoy the little things in life.

We haven’t received any adoption applications for our sweet girl yet, but until her perfect family comes along, you can find her soaking up the sunshine from her favorite spot on the couch in her little floral diaper. She is the prettiest, softest, sweetest little bulldog.

If you’d like to get chai something from our wishlist, she is still in need of some new washable diapers and a washable rug! Here’s our wishlist:

TW: Open wound photo in comments!

Smokey update - our local feral cat.

This old guy has been around his part of town for an over a decade. He’s been suffering from ear mites to the point of destroying his ear, partial deafness and a massive open wound that flies lived on on the back of his head behind his ear. Our vet recommended I try flea & ear mite treatment with Revolution Plus, and I’m amazed at how much his ear has healed.

Treating Smokey is not easy. It’s very much a wait and watch game, and I have to wait until he gets close enough to eat so I can carefully drip the treatment on him. He absolutely detests people and will not be touched or near someone, so it takes patience, timing, and a lot of consistency, but it’s working and it has been absolutely worth it. He was miserable all summer and it was so infected he was falling over himself. As a massive feral tom, he is not the kind of cat you can trap or even take into the vet, it wouldn’t be safe for him or anyone, so this was our only option.

It feels really incredible to get him some relief, and watch this little ear heal up before winter comes. 🥹

As you can see, he is well fed by all and loved in his neighborhood.

For our locals in Manistee who were worried about Champion roaming in the cold last year with his owner, I’d like you to know that this year he is not only dressed for Halloween cold, but is also a chicken with the sweetest foster family. He is SO cute!
