Take the time it takes.

Not every training session needs to be a time crunch to get the most accomplished.

Not every training session needs to end with a horse dripping in sweat.

Not every training session needs to be about what the human wants.

Some training sessions need to be slow. Allow the horse some time for emotional regulation, allow time for processing and understanding, allow them all the time they need. If you allow for horses to properly process and learn the first time, it will take a fraction of the time compared to rushing them through the basics and having to go back to fix gaps later. That’s exactly what I’m doing with this mare- fixing the gaps in her foundation to help her be a more willing partner and understand we are a team. The progress may look slow, but it will be ever lasting.

Horses ears and eyes can tell you so much if you pay attention 🤠

This is something often not taught to beginners.-Reading the simple body language of your horse and understanding what they are trying to tell you.

Being a good horseman goes far beyond being a good rider. Listen to your horse and you’ll get so much more accomplished

Confidence comes from knowing how to safely handle the situations life throws your way — and that applies both in and out of the saddle!

At Roaming C Equine, we teach practical horsemanship skills to help you feel safer and more confident, whether you’re preparing for trail rides, horseback riding vacations, recovering from an accident, or simply wanting to enjoy more time with your horse. 🐎

Working with horses teaches patience, problem-solving, and trust in yourself — skills that carry over into everyday life, too! 🤠

Fun fact: I didn’t have my first lesson with a professional instructor until after I had recovered from a fall that hit my confidence so hard I didn’t think I would ride again. That first lesson I was too scared to let go of the saddle horn. But with the help of a wonderful trainer I learned how to navigate the situations I was scared of.

Now it’s my turn to share this experience.

If you would have told me 5 years ago Jake would be a good all around boy that can give beginner lessons, go ride trails in the mountains or the plains, work cows, win buckles, and be the fastest 14.2hh pony in all the west I would’ve laughed and said “I just hope he doesn’t buck me off today”

But this is your reminder that the good ones aren’t easy and the easy ones aren’t always good. Give them time. 9/10 you’ll be a better horseman by the end of it too.

TBH- I wasn’t easy to handle in my teenage years either, but I think I turned out alright. So remember that when your young one is giving you a run for your money 🤠

Horses offer a kind of peace that’s hard to find anywhere else.

They help us slow down, be present, build confidence, and find comfort in a world that can feel overwhelming. ❤️

You don’t have to be an experienced rider to benefit from horses. Sometimes, just being around them is enough to remind you to breathe and enjoy the moment.

If you’ve been needing a breath of fresh air and to get away from the city call Roaming C Equine today to book a session! 🤠

Every program is different, as is every horse. The individuality of these two pieces need to be considered when choosing the right trainer and program.

Roaming C Equine prioritizes creating safe, fun, all around ranch horses. My program focuses on building confidence and emotional regulation in horses so that they can safely ride down the trail to round up the loose cattle and then go perform and win at a local show.

Unfortunately, creating horses that are reliable, honest, and broke isn’t always pretty and that’s why you need to understand the goals of your trainer. Why is your trainer doing what they are doing and what is your horse learning.

Here- your horse is going to learn how to confidently move forward, work around new obstacles, perform daily ranch work, and be a functional member of society

To do this successfully a horse must be able to think, listen, and respond accordingly even when they are experiencing outside pressure they do not like.

To start this mental training I begin with roping their feet, legs, butt, and progress to a flank rope. Pressure is released when the brain starts thinking.

In under 5 minutes this filly went from a bucking bronco to a horse looking for an answer and waiting for a sign.

New and upcoming trainers- here’s some advice to cover your 🫏

📸 This simple step protects BOTH the horse owner and the trainer!🐴

Always take updated pictures when a horse is transferred into or out of a trainer’s care.

Everyone’s memory of how they dropped their horse off can change especially after not seeing them for weeks or months. Trainers on the other hand, see the horse daily and may not notice gradual changes in the horses appearance but before and after pictures can highlight the differences.

For owners: Document your horse’s condition before drop-off. Especially if using a hauler to transport your horse to the trainer for you. A lot of weight can be lost on a stressful trip.

For trainers: Document the horse’s condition upon arrival, again especially if brought to you by a shipper. Take pictures throughout the program and again at pickup.

Why is this important?
• Establishes a clear record of the horse’s condition.
• Helps protect both parties if questions arise about weight loss, injuries, or overall care.
• Promotes accountability and transparency.
• Documents whether the horse maintained or improved its condition while in training.

This isn’t about a lack of trust. It’s about professionalism, protecting everyone involved, and putting the horse first.

Good horsemanship includes good recordkeeping. Trust is important, but documentation protects that trust. 🤠🐎

Enjoy this picture of big b***y Jake. Boot camp coming to him soon 💪🏼💪🏼
