The last frost it right around the corner!! 🥶 That means it's time to garden!! 🌱
Did you know you can create a garden that's safe and enjoyable for both you AND your pets? Let's dig in! 🐶🐱
Tips for a Pet-Friendly Garden:
Know Your Plants! 🌿 Some plants are toxic to pets. Do your research! Avoid common culprits like lilies, tulips, and sago palms. Check out the ASPCA's toxic plant list for a comprehensive guide!
Create Safe Zones: 🚧 Designate areas where your pets can roam freely, away from delicate plants or potentially harmful substances. Use raised beds or fencing to protect sensitive areas.
Choose Pet-Safe Plants: 🌻 Opt for pet-friendly options like catnip, rosemary, thyme, and sunflowers. These are safe and can even provide enrichment for your furry pals.
Avoid Pesticides and Herbicides: 🚫 Use natural, pet-safe alternatives for pest control and w**d management. Chemical pesticides can be harmful if ingested.
Provide Shade and Water: 💧 Ensure your pets have access to plenty of shade and fresh water, especially during hot weather.
Consider a Digging Zone: 🦴 If your dog loves to dig, create a designated digging area with sand or loose soil. This will protect your precious plants!
Mulch Matters: Opt for pet safe mulch. Avoid cocoa bean mulch as it contains theobromine, which is toxic to dogs. Shredded bark or wood chips are great choices.
Train and Supervise: 🐕 Train your pets to avoid certain areas and supervise them, especially when introducing them to the garden for the first time.
Fun Fact: Catnip (Nepetacataria) is a member of the mint family and can induce a euphoric response in cats! 😻
