We got family photos done this weekend. Maven wasn’t there. We actually don’t have many photos of the four of us, let alone any professional ones.
That’s because we love her.
A new person. A new location. Weird equipment. Posing that makes absolutely zero sense to a dog. For Maven, that’s a lot.
Even beyond her stress, photo sessions with dogs and kids can create situations that aren’t safe, most photographers aren’t trained in dog body language or child + dog safety. An already stressed dog in a high-demand environment with excited little ones is a recipe for everyone having a bad, potentially unsafe time.
We would have LOVED to have her there. But leaving her home was the loving choice.
Not being in the photos doesn’t make her any less a part of this family.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for your dog is knowing when not to bring them.

Maven didn’t get the memo, but today was kind of a big deal around here!
Today was day one of the Family Paws Parent Educators licensing program! This is a specialized program designed to prepare me to help families build safe, happy relationships between their dogs and their children.
While I took the mini course last year, this is a more in depth program and something I’ve wanted to pursue for a long time. It means the support I can offer through P.A.W.S. & Pacis is only getting deeper. More tools, more resources, and even more confidence for the families I work with navigating life with dogs and little ones.
