Meet Maddie!
You may remember this special face that we posted over two years ago. She is back and is our Spotlight Patient of the Month! Maddie is a truly special girl with a heart full of love and a resilient spirit. While she has faced a few medical challenges, she doesn't let them define her.
Maddie was born with a cleft palate, which is a condition where an opening in the roof of the mouth does not fully close during fetal development. This opening can make it difficult for food or water to stay out of the nasal passages, increasing the risk of choking or aspiration. Dogs with a cleft palate often require special feeding techniques or surgical repair, depending on the severity of the condition. Maddie has undergone several corrective surgeries leading to the smile she has today!
In addition to her cleft palate, Maddie has also undergone two TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgeries. This is a specialized orthopedic procedure performed to repair a torn cranial cruciate ligament (CCL), which is similar to an ACL injury in people.
Despite everything she's been through, Maddie continues to show remarkable resilience. We love Maddie and are so happy that she has found a family that loves and cares for her!
