It’s almost that time of year again! We are excited to host our third annual pet food drive for No Bowl Empty 2 Pet Food Pantry in Waterboro. In an effort to collect as many donations as possible, we’re teaming up with other local towns to see who will collect the most donations!

Last year, the Town of Buxton donated 991 POUNDS of dog and cat food plus other much-needed pet supplies to help our furry friends in York and Cumberland counties. We are hoping to donate over 1,000 pounds of food this year! Donations can be dropped off at Buxton Town Hall beginning Monday, September 29th. Donations will be accepted through Tuesday, November 4th (Election Day).

Thank you in advance for your donations!

🐾Our doctors recommend prevention year round. Fleas and ticks are prevalent throughout the year, and it is important to protect our four-legged friends from the diseases that the ticks and fleas can transmit.
🐾1 in 200 dogs in Maine will test positive for Heartworm, while 1 in 8 dog will test positive for Lyme Disease. These monthly preventives are the easiest way to protect your animals from these harmful ailments.
🐾Oral preventatives, like Nexgard, also help to keep intestinal parasites at bay. Dogs and cats that are boarded often, or attend daycares should keep up on monthly dosing to lower their chances of contracting parasites that are common in these locations.
🐾Nexgard products have instant rebates at 6 and 12 months that come off the total amount in clinic to help with a little extra savings at time of purchase.

Futures For Standardbreds to Host Fundraiser at Funky Bow Brewery

Futures For Standardbreds (FFS), a Buxton-based non-profit organization committed to retraining off-the-track Standardbreds as they transition from life on the track to life as pleasure horses, is hosting a fundraiser at Funky Bow Brewery (21 Ledgewood Ln, Lyman, ME 04002 ) on Sunday, September 28, Noon-6 p.m.

The event will feature raffle items, desserts by donation, and a visiting ambassador horse. There will also be food for purchase and live music by Funky Bow favorite Jeff Pellerin. Proceeds from the event help off-set costs for board, vet care, training, equipment and more.

“When horses retire from the racetrack, they need a retirement plan,” said Kristen Pretorius, local farrier and FFS board member. "They have to retire at age 14, and many live to be 30, One of the best attributes of this breed is their adaptability. They can learn to excel at trail riding, dressage, western pleasure, pleasure driving and more.”

Horses in the program undergo training under saddle and are then matched to qualifying adoption applicants.

“We hope horse lovers and non-horse lovers alike will join us for this festive afternoon," said Ann Ewing, president of FFS. "Interested in volunteering or adopting? Visit www. futuresforstandardbreds.org."

Futures For Standardbreds is an independent, non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c) (3) organization located in southern Maine. We accept donated Standardbreds that are looking for forever homes as pleasure horses.
