It's flea and tick season! Are you and your furbabies prepared?
We wanted to share a few tips on prevention:
1. CONSULT VET - Firstly, ALWAYS consult with your vet on the best solution(s) for your pet. What we mention below are just options that we have tried and have worked for us but each furbaby is different and deserves the separate care that they need.
2. USE PREVENTITIVE - Administer tick protection regularly such as one of the following;
a. a topical such as K9 Advantix II (this is a liquid that you can put on your furbaby)
b. a flea and tick collar such as a Seresto collar (appears pricey but is great bang for your buck since it lasts up to 8 months)
c. a chewable treatment (must be prescribed by a Vet)
3. AVOID BUGGY AREAS - We know they are all full of adventures and want to investigate the unknown. Help avoid your furbaby from visiting flea and tick prone areas such as tall brush or grass, wooded areas, and shrubs.
4. YARD CLEAN UP - Make your yard less hospitable to ticks and fleas by mowing, raking leaves, and removing brush piles on a regular basis.
5. PROTECT YOUR HOME - Make your home less hospitable to ticks and fleas with a natural topical. We use Wondercide and Scout's Honor spray since those products are developed with essential oils that can be safely sprayed on clothing and fabrics.
6. CHECK FOR PESTS - Check your furbaby for ticks regularly. Even after providing a tick preventative, dead ticks can stay attached and should be removed. Make sure to check inside ears, between toes, under the tail, in armpits, eyelids, head, folds of skin, and around the collar or neck. Signs to watch for is scratching, biting, small lumps, and head shaking.
7. REMOVE PESTS - If you find live or dead ticks or fleas on your furbaby, remove them immediately. For ticks we use and sell tick keys that provide an easy removal. For fleas, we use and sell Skout's Honor Flea and Tick Shampoo that is developed with natural ingredients that are safe for pups to use.
Now that you're prepped, go enjoy the beautiful weather with your furry best friend with less worries!
