Important Update about our Fearless leader Dr. Hunter.

As some as you know, she broke her collarbone a while back and has not had the easiest journey with getting it to mend properly. She will be undergoing a 4th procedure this upcoming week to hopefully get it fixed. With this comes an important recovery period where she has to heal and make sure she is well before returning back to taking care of her patients. ❤️

We are expecting her to make her return the early part of December. Please keep our beloved Dr. Hunter in your thoughts and prayers as she bravely undergoes this procedure. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Meet Coco 🐶 🐾

Coco came to us last month very ill with an intestinal parasite infection. His owners had just adopted him a few days before and after noticing something was wrong, they brought him to us.

Coco ended up so severely anemic from the heavy load of intestinal parasites, he ended up needing several blood transfusions, with numerous intravenous medications and wormer.

After lots of ups and downs, the dedication and love from his new family, and the amazing knowledge and care of his doctors and nurses, Coco made a full recovery!! He visits us often and is always overjoyed to see his Main Street Family. The feeling is very mutual!

Intestinal parasites can be easily prevented and treated with the correct medication from your veterinarian.
When left untreated, parasites can take a huge toll on your pet, especially puppies. They can be transmitted through the mother while nursing and also from environmental exposure.

Hookworms, what Coco had, can cause severe anemia by attaching themselves to the intestinal lining, sucking blood and leaving lots of damage behind.
These parasites are also zoonotic meaning, they can be spread to people.
This is why it is so important to bring your pets in for their annual exams to check for parasites. Also to use year-round parasite preventatives for your pets, deworm pregnant and/or nursing dogs at regular intervals, bringing in your new puppies and kittens as soon as possible, especially at the first sign of illness.

The most common clinical signs are lethargy, diarrhea, inappetance, vomiting, pale gums, poor hair coat, weight loss. Most pets respond well to the right treatment but in Coco’s case, puppies can experience more severe illness and complications.

Although Coco and his sweet family went through this, we are all so happy to see his amazing outcome and see him thriving!
