Today is vet day for Miss Nora and Mushu!

Nora the bearded dragon with severe metabolic bone disease, came to us just two nights ago. Today she's heading in for a full checkup, f***l testing, and an evaluation to help us determine what else we can do to give her the best possible quality of life.

Joining her will be Mushu. As we've monitored him throughout quarantine, we've become concerned that he may be hiding the early signs of a respiratory infection. We'd rather be safe than sorry, so he's making a trip to the vet, too!

We're expecting a bill of approximately $160 just for their checkups and f***ls. This does not include any additional testing, medications, or treatments that may be needed once they're examined.

As always, we could use a little help covering these unexpected medical expenses. Every dollar makes a difference when you're caring for animals who need a little extra help.

💚Bambis New Adventure❤️

The leopard geckos of the rescue have not had much luck in getting adopted this year. At one point we had 7 adoptable leopard geckos! Just when we thought the leopard geckos were locked in for the year, we got an application!
Bambi came from a chain pet store as a very small juvenile. We have had to work a lot on handling with Bambi and we knew any potential family would need lots of patience. This evening Bambi went home with their new mom, Lee! Lee has reptile experience and has already fallen in love with Bambi. From a pet store shelf to a 50 gallon leopard gecko paradise, Bambi is sure to have many adventures ahead!

Wish List Wednesday!

With Nora coming in that used up our last UVB bulb and we have several that will be ready to be exchanged by the holidays. So today we are asking for UVB bulbs!

The photo below of Nora's twisted arm is a prime example of why reptiles absolutely need the proper UVB and it should be replaced as necessary.

The ones we need can be found on our Chewy wish list below

We could also really use more internal heat mounts as we continue to upgrade and stack enclosures.

💚The Reality of Reptile Ownership❤️

Owning reptiles, and other exotic animals, has become quite popular over the past year. Reptiles are beautiful, unique, intelligent, and entertaining pets to have and their enclosures give an awesome vibe to any home. But what some new reptile keepers may not realize, is how much work goes into it.
In the picture below you see everything we had to pick up at the store JUST for the exotic animals. The items shown will feed all the large lizards, the Uromastyx, bearded dragons, and sugar gliders, and cost around $70. Let’s break down some other costs:

🦗 Insects: $120
🐁Frozen Feeders: $50
🦎 Misc. Powder Diets: $30
⚡️Electricity Cost: $300 per month

Now, these are numbers based off of the rescue and what we have in our home. Your numbers may be less, or more if you have a large collection. The above list does not begin to take any vet cost we may incur at any given time.
Reptile ownership is researching various diets, keeping up with enclosure standards, doing constant reading on new species, constant handling, and adjusting care to meet current standards. This is why research before making the choice to add a reptile to your family is so important. No two reptiles are created equal, each species has unique standards of care.

One bearded dragon has been adopted, which means we've opened up a spot for another dragon on our waitlist. And this little girl is next.And this one tugs on the heartstrings a little.

Meet Nora.

Her family worked hard to give her a better life after receiving her in this condition three years ago. In fact, she was given a beautiful, proper setup as an upgrade from the home she came from before that.Unfortunately, sometimes the damage has already been done.

Nora has severe metabolic bone disease. Her back is twisted and has significant humps, her ribs are misshapen and protruding, a large portion of her tail is missing and what remains is severely kinked. Her arms are also significantly misshapen and turned.She has difficulty getting around, and we know life hasn't been easy for this little girl. But none of that has taken away her sweet personality. She absolutely loves human attention and has so much love to give.

We can't go back and change what happened to Nora, and we can't undo the damage her body has endured. But we can make sure the rest of her life is filled with comfort, proper care, and all the love she deserves.Welcome to Eclectic Exotics, little girl. Let's get you on the right path. ❤️

💚Halo Found a Home❤️

Halo the bearded dragon has been patiently waiting for her forever home. When Halo arrived she was full of parasites and was heavily overweight. Over the past few months she’s been with us she has managed to clear all of her parasites and get a little slimmer! All of that just in time to…..
Find a home! Few families will drop everything to make things right for a bearded dragon. But, we had one adopter who followed the Care Guide to a “T” and set up everything just right for Halo! Thank you, Hope, for being ready to learn and being so willing to change everything you knew to help Halo have the best life possible. We cannot wait for updates on Halo!

Janesville!!! All we can say is WOW!! You guys really showed up, showed out, and supported our little rescue!

Ziti worked his little tail off asking for donations today, and he was an absolute STAR!

Today's donations covered our ENTIRE feeder bill for the week with leftovers for a vet bill!!

So many animals have people interested in them! Several applications were filled out TODAY!

We are so grateful to everyone who supported our cause! We couldn't do it without you all!

💚Holiday Shutdown is Coming❤️

We are officially 25 days away from our annual Holiday Shutdown! The expos that remain within these last few days before will be FILLED with adoptable animals!
