Today, Grand Victorian of Rockford welcomed us for a wonderful visit where we shared some of our amazing rescue animals with the residents. Everyone loved meeting and interacting with the animals, and it was incredible seeing so many smiles and hearing all the great questions.

Every animal was phenomenally behaved, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to spend the day educating, connecting with the community, and bringing a little extra joy to everyone we met. Days like this remind us why we do what we do.

❤️Boo has been Adopted!💚

An adoption on Memorial Day? Sign us up! After almost a year stay with us Boo, one of our resident leopard geckos, has been adopted! Boo was calm, cool, and collected when his new family came to pick him up!
Thank you to the Maggio family for getting their complete set up done by themselves! We couldn’t be more proud of our newest addition to the EER&R family. This goes to show that when a family ( and their children) are all in…amazing things can happen.

❤️For more information on our adoption process, or for more information on our adoptable animals please reach out to us!

🔥High Temperatures🔥

Good morning class!

Today and tomorrow we will be seeing our highest temperatures yet this year. This means most AC units across the Midwest will be turned on to keep the humans warm. But, what about us reptiles? There are a few things to think about, let’s check them out!

❤️ If you do not have thermometers in your enclosures, it may be time to break them out! They will help ensure that the ambient temperature of your enclosure doesn’t climb to dangerous highs.
💚 Monitor your reptile. Excessive gaping, abnormal behavior, constant hiding, constant scrambling at the glass of enclosure, lethargy and loss of appetite might be signs of over heating.
💜 Do not panic! If you notice your temperatures are too hot you have options: turn off your heat lamp as a temporary fix, you can also move your enclosure out of direct sunlight. A longer term fix is to lower the wattage of your heat bulb.
🤎 Listless ≠ Basking. Basking and relaxing on our basking spot does not mean we are lethargic. Basking is normal. Listlessness is a lack of energy. If you notice your reptile is not acting normally contact your veterinarian!

Some reptiles such as bearded dragons and leopard geckos can handle a little bit of heat. Species such as crested geckos and chameleons should not be exposed to extreme heat for long periods of time.
Don’t know where your temps should be? Have questions about how hot is too hot? Reach out to us, we will be happy to help!

Class dismissed!

🚨We are not veterinarians. These are meant to be tips and not substitutes for veterinary care. If you are concerned about your reptile please contact your nearest exotic vet.

We hope to see you guys!! Remember its the last expo for a whole month. Do NOT miss out. Some awesome vendors! Come get supplies and feeders for your scaley kiddos and dont forget to come see Kayla and Alex at the concession stand for some walking tacos and biscuits and gravy! They tend to sell out quick!

𝗧𝗢𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗥𝗢𝗪 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗬

We are less than 24 hours away from the next Scott Smith’s All Animal Expo at the Kane County Fairgrounds.

We have had several additional vendors register over the last couple days and tomorrow’s show is looking like a great mix of animals, feeders, supplies, and knowledgeable vendors.

Don’t forget all adults will receive a FREE raffle ticket with paid admission for a chance to win a 22" Blackstone Flat Top Grill and steaks from Ream’s Meat Market. Drawing will be held at 2pm and you must be present to win.

Also remember, after tomorrow’s expo there will be a few week gap before our next show on June 20th, so it is a great opportunity to stock up on feeders and supplies.

We can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow.

❤️Volunteer Wanted💚

Have you been wanting a place to volunteer and don’t know where to go? Do you love plants and gardening? This may be the opportunity for you! Here’s what we are looking for:

💚 Someone with plant knowledge (not google knowledge, actual knowledge)
❤️ Reptile experience encouraged but not required
💜 A little scared of the reptiles? No problem, this can be a hands off experience
🤎 We are looking for someone that wants to learn about safe plants for reptiles. If you love learning, this is the space for you!
❤️ This is not outdoor gardening, all plants are located inside

If you are interested in volunteering with us please feel free to reach out! We look forward to working with you!

❤️The Work is never Done💚

Alex and I don’t “have days off”. Between the two of us we work 4 different jobs to allow the rescue to thrive. So in our free time we clean, rearrange enclosures, do enclosure maintenance, do trips to the vet, educational programs, social media posts, take calls and messages, and try to give the adoptable animals the best life possible.
Here you see 3 donated 120 gallon enclosures (thank you to the families that graciously donated). In order to accommodate humid species enclosures are sealed to ensure that no water leaks out. All of our enclosures are sealed so that we are ready for any species that comes our way.
Rescue work is never done, and it’s not always easy. We work tirelessly to make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible. They might not be able to tell us, but we know the animals appreciate it.

Welcome our new intake Linguine.
Linguine is a very curious and interactive little noodle. This was right after arriving and taking a meal. She got a little bit of substrate stuck in the mouth and was demonstrating how you fix that when you don't have hands 😝

💚Meet Linguine❤️

This week we had the pleasure of helping a family with their 10 year old corn snake. When Linguines mom had to go away for school and couldn’t take them with, they called us! Determined to ensure Linguine went to a place with good intentions they brought Linguine here to begin their next journey.
As stated above Linguine is a 10 year old corn snake and is extremely friendly! Linguine is settling in nicely to their new surroundings. As always Linguine will complete a mandatory quarantine period before joining our other adoptable animals.

❤️We have 19 adoptable animals right now! If you are interested in becoming a reptile keeper please reach out to us directly!
💜Some enclosure specials may apply!
