The Rescue Train is a unique, non-profit 501(c)(3) no-kill organization dedicated to eliminating animal suffering and euthanasia through hands-on rescue work, education and awareness. We fulfill our mission through our key initiatives: rescue and rehome, shelter intervention, dedication to spay and neuter, and collaboration with other like-minded organizations. We aim to drastically reduce the num

ber of animals entering kill shelters and animals living on the streets of Los Angeles. Many of our life-saving programs help lay a foundation of lasting change through community outreach and celebrate the human-animal bond. Our Shelter intervention Program and Pet Pantry prevent animals from entering Los Angeles City shelters by providing resources to low income, senior citizens, veterans and homeless pet owners. We offer free spay and neuter to help solve pet overpopulation at the root of the problem. Our Pet Care Clinics go into areas of poverty to provide resources that includes vaccines, grooming, referrals to vet care, pet food and supplies.

Three and a half years. That’s how long Mike and Bobby (more formally known as Mykonos and Barcelona) waited for the perfect home. Of course they got plenty of love in their foster home, (shout out to Laurie 🙌) but that’s not the same as having a doting person of their very own. But finally just the right person came along—someone who wanted a bonded pair of adult cats.

Here’s adopter Kellie with Al (aka Alphonse, formerly Bobby) and Ed (formerly Mike). 😻😻

Wishing you a Happy New Year - Kellie, Al and Ed! 💫

The Rescue Train’s Snip Ship fixes a lot of feral kittens from the area where these beautiful little Siamese sisters were found. They were fortunate to be snatched out of an alley before any harm could befall them, and their rescuer handed them off to one of the Rescue Train’s knowledgeable fosters.

And it didn’t take long for a pair of cat-lovers to fall in love and adopt them. Here’s adopter Cheryl with Nora and Lucy (formerly Sally and Gillian). 😻😻

Thank you, Laurie, for being such a MEOWvelous foster home and Congrats to Cheryl , Nora and Lucy! 💫

Who needs a little holiday spirit? 💛🐾

When Rescue Train volunteers learned that 19 pet owners from our Keep Your Pet Project, most of them senior citizens living on fixed incomes, didn’t have enough food to feed their pets through the holidays, they didn’t hesitate. They put their own holiday plans on hold to show up for our community.

This year, many families aren’t buying “extras.” They’re struggling to afford groceries. And when families struggle, animals are at risk.

So in the pouring rain, these incredible humans showed up to make sure no one had to choose between feeding themselves or feeding the pets they love.

Join us in thanking these everyday heroes and spreading a little extra love and cheer this season.
Happiest of holidays from The Rescue Train. Let’s choo choo into the New Year together. 🚂💛

So much gratitude to Samara and Nick of Tatone Group | Rodeo Realty, two realtors who truly give back, for opening their hearts (and the street!) to host the 17th Annual Holiday Boutique benefiting The Rescue Train. We are incredibly thankful to be part of such a joyful day filled with laughter, holiday cheer, and a community that came together to truly shop for good. 🎁🐾

A heartfelt thank you to Victoria Cunningham Jewelry, all of the meow-velous vendors, and every shopper who came out to support. Because of you, more animals will have a brighter future, and more pet owners can rely on The Rescue Train for spay/neuter services, our pet pantry, and the Keep Your Pet Project. 💛

Wishing everyone a happy HOWLiday! 💫

A growing number of countries are curbing or banning the sale of consumer fireworks, in a move aimed at reducing injuries, environmental harm, and noise pollution. Among them: the Netherlands recently passed a legislation to ban private New Year’s Eve fireworks, a decision backed by a clear majority of their parliament.

Starting in 2026, the Netherlands will make history with a groundbreaking decision to officially ban the sale and use of fireworks!

Supporters say the ban responds to real risks: every year, fireworks injure thousands (especially children) and cause fires, trauma, and stress for pets and wildlife. By shifting celebrations toward public, professionally organized spectacles, the new rules prioritize safety and community well‑being — while still keeping the sparkle of fireworks alive for everyone to enjoy.
