☀️ How hot is too hot for your dog?☀️

We all love getting outside with our pups, but summer heat can become dangerous much faster than many people realize. Pavement absorbs and holds heat, meaning concrete and asphalt can be 20-60°F hotter than the air temperature, putting your dog’s paw pads at risk for burns and increasing the chance of heat-related illness.

Use the graphic below as a helpful guide, but remember that surface temperatures vary depending on direct sun, shade, wind, and the type of pavement. When in doubt, do the 7-second hand test: if you can’t comfortably hold the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

🐾 Walk during the cooler morning or evening hours.
💧 Bring plenty of water.
🌳 Stick to grass or shaded paths whenever possible.

A little planning goes a long way in keeping our four-legged friends safe this summer. Stay cool! ❤️🐶

Every eight weeks we have GCG and CGCA Testing in South Griffith Park, 3401 Riverside Drive, LA, on a Saturday from 8:30 am to 10 am. Cost $15. AKC tricks testing, bring your own forms. Check the dates at HDOC.org Meet the evaluators.
