Exposure is crucial in young dogs and puppies. Taking them out and about helps them to see the world and understand that things aren’t so scary. That being said, not everywhere is great for exposure… Dog parks are a huge no for us. You can only control what your dog is going to do. You can’t control other people or their dogs. Bad experiences can lead to reactivity or even aggression. Some of the places we love to visit are Tractor Supply, Lowe’s, Academy, pet stores (Petco, Petsmart, Pet Supplies Plus, etc), Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s. Farmers Markets and parks (leashed) are also a great go to! Just remember to advocate for your dog and make sure they have positive experiences!
If this is an area you feel like you or your dog have been struggling, reach out to us! We offer a 2 week exposure based board&train, as well as public lessons.
