UPDATE: Valentine has been tagged by rescue and is off to her new life!!

Some dogs come into the shelter and quietly wait for their person. Valentine has been waiting since May 5th.

At just 1.5 years old, this shepherd mix should be spending her days chasing adventures, snuggling on the couch, and living life with a family. Not growing up in a shelter kennel.

Valentine has had multiple Shelter Skip Day outings and every report has said the same thing: she’s amazing. She loves to run, walk, play, explore, and according to one of her report cards… she’s also a world-class cuddler. She’s been reported to coexist well with cats, loves being with people, and truly just wants someone to call her own.

She’s active, loving, fun, and the kind of dog that becomes your sidekick for everything life throws your way.

Valentine doesn’t need to be perfect. She just needs someone willing to give her the chance she deserves.

Please help us find this really, really good girl the home she’s been waiting for, because shelter life was never meant to be forever, and Valentine deserves to be someone’s best buddy.

UPDATE: The rooster has found his new home!

POV: You go to Kroger and accidentally acquire a rooster.

This guy was found last week casually existing in the Kroger parking lot...like that was a completely normal place to be.

He's got confidence. He's got feathers. He's got no home to go back to.

Help us find him a place to go before he decides to make the shelter his permanent address.

Our shelter has spent the entire month operating at maximum capacity, and the numbers tell the story.

Since May 1st, we have welcomed:

• 183 stray animals
• 148 animals from Animal Control agencies
• 69 owner surrendered pets
• 14 TNR cats
• 12 wildlife intakes

That’s 426 animals needing safety, care, and a place to go.

Our staff works tirelessly every single day to create safe pathways for these animals as quickly as possible through adoptions, rescue partnerships, reunifications, and foster placements, but the current pace is not sustainable.

We need our community now more than ever! We need adopters. We need advocates. We need to encourage our friends, family, and neighbors to spay and neuter their pets, keep pets safely contained, microchip them, and make responsible choices before an emergency happens.

Every responsible pet owner, every adopter, every share, and every conversation helps. The solution to shelter overcrowding starts in the community and right now, we need ours.

Today we would like to take a moment to recognize the incredible Facilities Team with the City of Longview's Public Works Department.

While they may not work directly inside the shelter, their support behind the scenes is a huge part of what keep our operations running smoothly. From quick responses and unexpected issues to helping keep our building safe, functional, and comfortable for both staff and our animals. Their dedication never goes unnoticed.

We are incredibly thankful for their hard work, reliability, and willingness to jump in whenever needed! It truly takes a team effort to keep our shelter moving forward, and we are lucky to have such amazing support from this team!

Thank you for everything you do for our shelter, our staff, the animals in our care and the City of Longview.

You are appreciated!

Every day our staff shows us ready to make a difference. Some days that means cleaning kennels, answering calls, and caring for the animals that need them most. Other days, it means earning the trust of an animal who has every reason to be afraid.

On April 26th, a frightened and shut-down dog arrived at our shelter. Unsure of the world around them and overwhelmed by their new surroundings, they kept their distance and struggled to trust, but our staff never gave up.

Through patience, consistency, kindness, and countless hours of dedicated work, this little guy began to realize he was safe. Day by day, small victories turned into big breakthroughs. The scared dog who once avoided interaction now seeks affection, shows confidence, and is ready to start the next chapter of their life.

This transformation didn't happen overnight. It happened because of a team that believes every animal deserves a chance.

Today, ROCKET POWER is available for adoption and we couldn't be more proud of how far he has come! Stories like this remind us why we do what we do and why every animal is worth the time, effort and love it takes to help them succeed.
