Train your puppy like a pro with this one tip ☝️

The key to teaching your puppy any command is to first make sure they know how to follow your lead. And the best way to do that is to engage a puppy on how they learned best naturally, and that’s by NOSE first!

It’s far too common that a humans anthropomorphize our dogs when training them which is just a fancy way of saying we treat them like humans. One of the most common ways we do this is by over verbalizing and trying to talk our dogs into a command. I’m here to let you in on a little secret… Dogs don’t speak English or any other human language for that matter!
They can learn what our vocabulary means but if you want them to understand you then you have to understand how to teach them. No matter the age, dogs learn best by first engaging their nose, than their eyes, and lastly the ears.

I was just trying to keep my dogs cool…😂💦

With this heat wave, we thought a splash pad would be the perfect way for Zeke and Penni to cool off.

And it was.

For about 30 seconds. Definitely was user error on my part🥴

Luckily, Plan B worked a lot better.

One of my favorite ways to give the dogs a cool treat on hot days is making homemade PUPSCILES. They’re easy, the dogs love them, and we can make them using ingredients we already feel good about feeding them.

For these, we used the Herring & Mackerel Rustic Stew Topper from Open Farm Pet along with their Grass-Fed Beef Bone Broth and Turkey recipe Be Good Bites and frozen everything together.

Safe to say Zeke and Penni approved of Plan B.

What’s your dog’s favorite way to cool off when it’s hot?

Conversations with a cattle dog 🐶

i’m not ashamed to admit that I feed my dogs addiction daily… What is he addicted to you ask.. PLAY!

If you ask me one tip for the best bond possible with your dog then I would say play with them every day! Obedience is much easier with a dog who actually sees a reason to listen to you 🤯🐾

A home is not a home without a dog 🐶

I know I’m not alone when I say dogs give us humans far more than just companionship. In celebration of national dog day I wanted to take this time to list five reasons why life is better with a dog.

1. They give us purpose.

Sometimes just knowing someone needs you is enough to get you moving.

2. They make us healthier without us even realizing it.

More walks. More fresh air. More reasons to get up, get outside, and experience life.

3. They connect us to the world around us.

Strangers become conversations. Walks become adventures. New places become memories.

4. They never care about the things we think make us imperfect.

They don’t care what you look like, what you have, or what you’ve been through. They just know you.

5. For some, they’re family. For others, they’re the reason they don’t feel alone. ❤️
Either way, their love is real and unconditional.

I taught my dog sign language before ever teaching command words.. 👂

Even if your dog can’t hear… Doesn’t mean they can’t listen and before I get some heat in the comments, NO my dog Penelope is not deaf.

However I have absolutely worked with several deaf dogs in my years of training and whether a dog is deaf or has perfect hearing, my approach is always to engage the nose, eyes, then the ears last.

It is very common for us humans to over verbalize when trying to teach our dog and the truth of the matter is is that the words are actually what comes last. As long as you know what drives your dog then you can absolutely learn to communicate with them!

When you’ve built trust with your dog is when their world truly opens up. 🐕

Here me out, we as humans decided to domesticate dogs as our family members, but should that mean they have to experience the world only 6 feet at at time?

It is my belief that dogs were meant to be off leash and unfortunately many people either don’t know how or aren’t willing to put in the work in order to build the trust it takes to get there.

My philosophy is that in order to build the best bond possible with your dog you need three pillars as the foundation and that is trust, respect, and love.

Some people won’t like to hear this but love is a given and I’m not saying you should not provide a ton of love to your dog, YOU ABSOLUTELY SHOULD. But it doesn’t take long for a dog to recognize just how much you love them, whereas trust and respect our EARNED MUTUALLY alongside one another.

What that means is that you can have a dog that loves you but does not trust or respect you and that is why many people have dogs that are stuck living life with limitations.

13 puppies. 13 completely different personalities. 😂❤️

One of my favorite parts of this job is watching puppies discover the world and seeing their personalities unfold as they grow into the dogs they’re meant to be.

Now I wanna see yours.

Turn the comments into a dog roll call — show me your dogs! Puppies, adults, seniors, new additions or lifelong best friends… everybody’s invited. ❤️🐾
