Our friend Erica Salvemini shared this info from her newsletter with me and I wanted to pass it along to raise awareness of the way Canada geese are being cruelly killed. I will link her newsletter below but here are a few quotes:

"Canada geese are being rounded up and gassed in the Meadowlands — quietly, under a USDA contract with NJSEA. But now, with the support of the Animal Protection League of New Jersey, local residents are rising to stop it. On May 10, a peaceful protest in Lyndhurst will bring people together across all backgrounds in a non-political, compassionate show of unity. This is humanity at its best — standing together to oppose cruelty, end needless suffering, and restore our bond with the natural world through humane, lasting solutions."

"Under a quiet contract with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA), USDA Wildlife Services is capturing, gassing, and exterminating Canada geese across 18 sites in the Meadowlands, NJ."

"In a recent conversation with Doreen Frega of the Animal Protection League of New Jersey (APLNJ), I learned what happened just last July. Invited by NJSEA, the USDA rounded up, captured, and gassed 121 geese — and shot five swans. They did it in the middle of the night, between 2–3 a.m., just after molting season, when geese are grounded and unable to fly due to feather loss. It was deliberate. It was calculated. It was cruel."

Happy Spring! It seems that after such a bitterly cold winter, spring has finally arrived. Flowers are beginning to bloom, I saw my first bee of the season and was even able to help a baby turtle off the walkway so It wouldn't get stepped on. It was great to be outdoors and the sun felt warm on my face. I hope that you are having a wonderful day as well. 😊
