Today at Asha Laaya, we welcomed Deaf students from the Rome School for the Deaf for a farm tour and a wonderful farm to table fresh lunch!💚
We had an amazing time together. The students were curious, engaged and asked so many thoughtful questions about farming and Asha Laaya. We were also honored to share the history and vision of Asha Laaya, including:
Learning how this Deaf-led farm was created to build opportunities for the Deaf community. Exploring farming, fresh food access, community and leadership. Learning about growing, harvesting and preparing fresh vegetables through a farm to table experience. One of the most beautiful moments was communicating directly with the students in sign language without an interpreter.❤️ That connection reminded us why Asha Laaya is so meaningful accessibility, belonging and opportunity for our Deaf community. Our hearts are filled with joy to see their curiosity, questions and excitement made the day even more special!! 🌱🤟🏽💚
