πŸˆβ€β¬› Today is National Black Cat Day! πŸˆβ€β¬›

The first picture highlights one issue that can sometimes make it hard to get black cats adopted - if the lighting isn't juuust right, it can be tough or impossible to get a "good" photo of a black cat. All you see is a blob with eyes! And if you try to change the lighting or use filters, then the photo starts to look doctored (because it is) or just overall worse. In the first photo, Suzie has a cute, expressive face, while pal Sheena is just a pair of eyes πŸ‘€

Suzie and Sheena are young adults, maybe a year and a half or so old. These two have been through it - they were abandoned over the Summer in very unsanitary conditions after their owners moved out. We rescued 13 cats/kittens from the property. In addition to not being spayed, Suzie had skin issues (mainly on her ears) and Sheena had a dermoid cyst that we had to have removed!

They are timid in the shelter environment but will really emerge from their shells in a home. Suzie enjoys hanging out on cat trees, while Sheena prefers to relax in her cozy safe spots. They will become more and more lovable the longer they get to know you, but their adopter needs to understand that They. Will. Hide. It's taken them a while to open up to us here, and going to a new home with total strangers will of course freak them right back out for a while. They will need love and patience to become their best, most relaxed selves, and it won't happen overnight. They've been failed by people before, and we want to do our best to make sure it won't happen to them ever again πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€

(All of our cats are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, de-wormed, tested for FeLV/FIV, and treated for fleas before adoption)

COURTESY POST: Female cat found in Bethlehem. We do not have info at this time on age, if she is spayed or not, etc.
If you think she may be yours, the person that is watching her will hopefully be monitoring the comments or we can do our best to put you in touch.

It appears there was a mixup between this cat and another similar-looking missing kitty, and the comments in a previous post we made got a bit heated. Arguing or mean comments will be removed. Second Chance does not personally know either of these cats, and this found cat is NOT at our shelter. We are simply sharing these photos at a local person's request to try to help reunite this cat with her family. Thank you!

🧑🀎 Little Delia is just *hanging out* waiting to be chosen! Delia is a few months old and was initially brought to us a bit ago as a hissy stray kitten. She is now such a sweet girl, but still a tad bit timid and very quiet, so she seems to get overlooked. She would do best in a quieter home without little ones with another animal friend to help her come further out of her shell (she is currently running around with her other kitten friend as I type this).

She gets along fine with other kitties, but is not a fighter so would not stand up for herself well against domineering or bully cats. She has been exposed to dogs but, like most cats, would be freaked out if the dog chased her around.

Heres hoping we can find the perfect place for this gentle little soul 🀎🧑

UPDATE: We have turned off commenting on this post for now due to the heated turn things took. Hopefully we can all agree that the most important thing is making sure lost pets can get back home where they are loved and missed. This is also a good reminder that getting your pets microchipped is a surefire way to ensure that they can be returned to you if they are lost and found by someone. Thank you all.

COURTESY POST: Storm has been missing since from the corner of Morrison Hill Drive and Cottage Street since late September. She is around 5 years old. Please keep an eye out, and please share! 🩢

UPDATE: Jolene's been adopted!

πŸ™€ Jolene here to let everyone know that our phone and Internet is down today! We are able to check emails on a limited basis via a cell phone using a mobile hotspot, but we cannot use the landline phone. They can't make it out to fix it until around 5 PM today, so if you need to get ahold of us, please send us an email or leave us a voicemail with the understanding that we won't be able to get back to you until tomorrow or Saturday. Thank you for your understanding! πŸ™€

🐾

Jolene is around a year or two old and looking for a home. She's a very sweet girl that doesn't cause any trouble and gets along with the other cats (as long as they're nice to her). She'd make a great family pet 🩷

🐈 Happy from boys Frank and Carl! 🐈

In the midst of "Kitten season," with lots of cute, friendly little kittens in need of homes, it can be tough for older, shy kittens like these two to find homes. Frank and Carl were rescued as barn kittens and are around 5+ months old now. They are very sweet boys that are still learning the ways of being good housekitties. They sometimes still hiss a little, but once you start petting them, they become purr machines. They enjoy playing and would probably get along just fine with other pets. Adoptable separately or together, they need a home or homes where they will be given a little extra time to settle in, with people that won't let a hiss or two scare them. Young kids or active, loud homes would likely not be a good fit for them at this time.

Our adoption application can be found at the link below. We do look for applications to have a veterinarian listed, either a current office or one accepting new clients that you plan to use. Applications that are missing info take longer to be processed. Thank you! ⬇️

🌟A couple days delayed, but we wanted to share that this kitty had a happy ending! 🌟

A few days ago, concerned shoppers found a cat running around in the Littleton Shaw's parking lot with a harness and leash on. After staff members were unable to locate an owner, he was brought to our shelter, where we were able to scan him for a microchip (which he thankfully had) and get in touch with his owner, who was a few hours away. She was able to drive to Littleton the next day to pick him up, and all we can say is that we're very happy he was microchipped! Having a chip made finding his family as easy as a single phone call. All too often, friendly stray cats are not reunited with their owners. A big thank you to the shoppers and employees that stopped to help him out. It takes all of us to make our community a better place for pets 🐾

We offer microchipping at our spay/neuter clinics, and while many people decline because their pet doesn't go outdoors, you never know what may happen. After all, we pet owners know what types of shenanigans our furry friends like to get up to! Please reach out if you have questions about having your pet microchipped at their upcoming spay/neuter appointment.

(No judgement on the owner, please. Accidents happen, and we're just happy that we were able to reunite him with his family!)

πŸ–€ Adoption update for Eustis, now known as Ghost! Some may remember him from a post we did a while back when we almost ran out of kitten food. This little guy was brought to us in August by good Samaritans that found him by the road. After we were able to have him neutered, get his shots, and other needed vet care, he was adopted and is doing great! His adopter says "he’s eating well and has enough energy to go around. He’s getting bigger by the day."

We don't always know what the kitties have gone through before they come through our doors, but we are happy to have a part in giving them a second chance at a happy ending. Thank you adopters! πŸ–€

πŸ€πŸ–€ Silly girl Clementine is still waiting for a home! About a year old now, she initially came to us as a young mom (many still don't realize that cats can become pregnant before turning a year old!) but is ready for a home and new adventure of her own. She enjoys attention and is curious and funny. She'd likely fit into a home with kids or other pets just fine (with a gradual introduction) πŸ–€πŸ€

😺 We have some cute youngsters waiting for homes! Kittens especially get adopted quickly, so rather than applying for a specific one, it's best to submit an adoption application listing kitten as your preference. Then we will reach out to set up times for you to come meet who we have left. Please keep in mind that sending in an application for a specific kitten does not guarantee getting to adopt that specific one. If we receive 5 applications for the same kitten, of course they can only go to one home. However, we do keep applications for a while, so if all the kittens end up being adopted, we will still have applications on file for down the road 😺

Our adoption application can be found at the link below. We do look for applications to have a veterinarian listed, either a current office or one accepting new clients that you plan to use. Applications that are missing info take longer to be processed. Thank you!
