It's a great choice if you want something a little different in an edible landscape.

🐢 YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL FIND ON THE FARM!

Between watering, potting up plants and working around the greenhouses, we come across all kinds of little visitors.

Check out these two tiny turtles!

The wildlife is one of my favorite parts of spending so much time outside.

Any Florida wildlife folks want to take a guess at what species these are?

🌅 Sometimes this is all the reminder I need.

There's always something that needs watering, repotting or fixing around the nursery. And another project waiting right behind it.

But every now and then I look up and get a sunset like this.

That's one of the things that reminds me why I started growing plants and building this farm in the first place.

Just another evening at Lion Eye Farms. 🌿

💧 WHY WE WATER FROM THE BOTTOM

Here's a look at the flood tables we use in our greenhouse.

Instead of spraying water over the tops of all our young plants, the tables let the growing medium take up moisture from below.

That keeps the foliage drier, which can help reduce the risk of certain leaf-spot and fungal problems. It also makes watering trays of young plants more consistent.

It doesn't replace good airflow or careful watering — but it's one of the tools we rely on.

🌿 HOW WE KEEP OUR GINGERS IN ONE SPOT

Some gingers really like to spread.

Here at Lion Eye Farms, we grow them in wide, shallow Rain Science Lowrider Grow Bags. That gives their rhizomes room to grow while helping us keep varieties contained and organized.

The breathable fabric helps with drainage and air exchange, too.

And yes — we manufacture Rain Science Grow Bags ourselves!

It's one of those little things that makes nursery life easier.

🍌 NOT YOUR AVERAGE BANANA PLANT!

Here's one of our Dwarf Cuban Red Banana plants growing at Lion Eye Farms.

This variety is known for producing red-skinned bananas when mature. Even before it fruits, those huge tropical leaves make a statement.

We keep many of our banana plants in containers, including Rain Science Grow Bags, so we can manage them around the nursery.

☀️ Give bananas warmth, sunlight, water and plenty of nutrition.

🌱 MAKING ROOM FOR MORE PLANTS!

We've started preparing the ground for TWO new greenhouses at Lion Eye Farms.

Right now it might just look like a big empty growing area, but this space is going to help us expand our inventory of tropical fruit trees, unusual edibles and hard-to-find plants.

There's still a lot of work ahead. We'll share more pictures as the greenhouses take shape.

What unusual plant would you like to see us grow next? Drop it in the comments!

🌱 BEHIND THE SCENES AT LION EYE FARMS

Ever wonder what goes into the soil we grow our plants in?

Here's our custom soil mixing station. We start with Florida peat and blend our own growing medium using natural ingredients, including mineral amendments and worm castings.

We mix it ourselves because healthy plants start with healthy roots, and we like knowing exactly what goes into our growing media.

A little more work, but it's part of how we do things around here.
