If you think you may need our services in the coming weeks, we encourage you to reach out as early as you’re able so we can support you with as much care, comfort, and flexibility as possible.

While our availability for goodbye appointments is currently limited, we do continue to have regular availability for our aftercare-only services 🤍

What if my pet doesn’t have current medical records?

This is a question we receive often. If your pet has not been examined by a veterinarian within the past year, we may need a medical recommendation confirming that end-of-life care is appropriate before scheduling services.

Because Farewell My Friend is designed specifically for end-of-life support and aftercare, we are unable to provide this medical evaluation ourselves. If needed, we’ll help guide you through the process and work with your primary veterinarian to ensure your pet receives the care they need 🤍

We often describe Farewell My Friend as a nontraditional veterinary setting, but what does that really mean?

For us, it means creating a space that feels more like home than a hospital. It means comfortable furniture instead of exam tables, privacy instead of busy waiting rooms, and time that is intentionally unrushed. It means having the flexibility to honor the little details that matter most, whether that’s a favorite blanket, a special treat, a quiet outdoor goodbye, or simply the opportunity to sit together without feeling rushed.

When families are facing one of the hardest moments of pet ownership, we believe the environment matters. Our goal is to create a setting where pets and the people who love them can feel comfortable, supported, and cared for every step of the way 🤍

We are so excited to share that our owner, founder, and veterinarian, Dr. Amy Ruksznis, has been nominated for Trupanion’s 2026 Veterinary Appreciation Day Awards: Veterinarian of the Year 🤍

Farewell My Friend began with Dr. Ruksznis’ vision for gentler, more compassionate end-of-life care for pets and the people who love them. Her kindness, dedication, and deep respect for the human-animal bond are at the heart of everything we do, and we truly could not do this work without her.

If Dr. Ruksznis has touched your life or the life of your pet, we would be so grateful for your support. You can vote once daily through 5/26 using the link below (and in our bio!) 🐾

One of the many special parts of our goodbye appointments is helping families celebrate the little things their pets loved most. When you let us know your pet's favorite food, we make sure to have it on hand for them to enjoy 🤍

We’ve seen requests for:
• Tuna water
• Bacon
• Chocolate brownies
• Peanut butter
• Hot dogs
• Pizza crust
• Ribeye
• Cheez-Its
• Popcorn
• Watermelon

Sometimes love looks like one last favorite snack, shared with the people who loved them most 🐾

I am one half of Farewell My Friend. But on the day when I was a grieving Dog Mom to my own friend Olive, Eleanor came through 100% and then some. It was all the parts of our service that I’m proud we offer that I needed. The care, the compassion, the hug that when I left Olive let me know she was in good hands. When she came back to me in such little time, she was so many things. Her memories are now in keepsakes of ash and wood and clay. And with Eleanor’s help she will be whatever I need in the future to heal my heart. We will miss her so much.

First it was in her honor, and now it is in her memory, The Olive Fund hopes to continue to help others financially achieve closure in their time of need.

Thank you,
Dr. Amy Ruksznis
