‼️‼️‼️Shared from another facility

Sunday morning announcement and reality check, brought to you by us and Barney the cat:

We are NOT taking in dogs at this time. We have no open kennels, zero space and cannot help you with your dogs. We have had seven people contact us within the past few days to give up dogs. SEVEN!!

You may have very valid reasons for needing to give up your animal, but we are not just available every time someone has to give up a pet. YOUR pet is NOT our responsibility, and we simply cannot take them all in.

You have a dog that hates other dogs or randomly attacked another dog in the home? Perhaps a vet visit is in order because unprovoked attacks can be due to a medical issue. Or, are your dogs intact? If they aren't fixed, that can also lead to fights. If your dog truly hates other dogs and is attacking, a shelter is not the best place for them. A dog that hates dogs surrounded by other dogs is often a recipe for disaster and leads to kennel aggression, barrier reactivity and re-direction, causing our staff to get bit. It is unfair for the dog to be put in that type of environment and unfair for shelter staff to be put in danger.

Don't have time for a dog anymore? Your dog is happier in your home even spending limited time with you than they are in a shelter kennel. I promise.

Running low on money and can't afford dog food? We can assist with that.

Want to try a home-to-home adoption but your dog isn't fixed? We can assist with that.

Your dog a jumper, doesn't walk nice on a leash, chew stuff up? It's called training, and there are a million sources out there that can help you. Consistency, positive reinforcement and patience are key.

Moving in 24 hours? Well, that's on you, friend.

Lately we've been feeling like a dumping ground for people that just don't want to be bothered with their dogs anymore, and honestly, it's infuriating. Do not take an animal into your home if you aren't going to be committed to them. Do not take an animal into your home if you can't afford them. Do not expect others to solve your problems.

Yes, there are people out there who simply have no option, and we empathize with you. But we still can't always help you. Zero open kennels means zero open kennels. We have no doubt that even if we did have a bigger shelter with more kennels, we'd still be putting this message out there because we cannot keep up.

Instead of giving up, take responsibility and be the good pet owner we know you can be.
