In the summer, area residents and visiting campers can enjoy guided horseback rides through rural PA on our team of Tennessee Walking horses, famed for their smooth running walk. 🌸 ALERT: The Mountain Laurel is Doing the Thing! 🌸

Alright, Nittany Mountain Trail Ride fans, look alive! This is not a drill, we repeat, this is not a drill! The Mountain Laurel (PA’s state flower and the undisputed heavyweight champion of spring scenery) is officially blooming. The ridges are turning pink and white, the air smells amazing, and frankly, nature is showing off. You could hike up there to see it, but let’s be real: why walk on two legs when you can majestically traverse the terrain on four?

The Current Situation (A Dramatic Breakdown)
The Reality: These stunning blooms only stick around for a few short weeks. They have zero respect for your busy calendar.
The Danger: If you wait too long, you’ll just be looking at a bunch of very nice, very green bushes. (Green is great, but it’s not this great).
The Horses: Our trail crew is highly professional, exceptionally handsome, and 100% motivated by snacks. They do the walking; you do the gawking.

The Profile: McCabe
• Breed/Age: Tennessee Walker, 2006 Model (20 years old)
• Color/Gender: Blue Roan, Gelding
• The "Brave" Factor: He has a classic 'been there, done that' mentality and wisdom beyond his years. Having survived everything from guns and heavy traffic to wildlife and a past career as a saintly youth camp horse, his spook-meter is zero!
• Job in the Herd: The Tailgating Supervisor 🚗💥
He is the ultimate 'Do as I say, not as I do' member of the string. If the pace drops below his standard, he takes matters into his own hands by gently biting the b***y of the horse ahead of him to motivate them. It’s a bold management style, especially considering he is one of the slowest walkers in the entire barn!

• Secret Talent: He is spectacular at the Grab-and-Go snack method. He calculates his approach to low-hanging branches like a fighter jet refueling mid-air. One swift, perfectly timed tilt of the head, and he’s successfully grabbed a mouthful of foliage while keeping his feet moving perfectly straight.

• Trail Skill: When a deer bursts from the bushes or a turkey flies out of a tree, this horse's heart rate barely blips. Because he stays calm, his relaxed energy acts as a literal "blanket" that down-regulates the stress level of every nervous horse around him.

Did You Know?
He is a seasonal shapeshifter! In the winter, he grows a thick, dark coat that makes him look completely black. But he is actually a genetically true blue roan. Roaning is caused by white hairs interspersed throughout a dark base coat, while the head and lower legs stay solid black. When he sheds his winter wool, those white hairs take over, transforming him into a stunning, silvery-blue gunmetal color for the summer

The Horses Don't Care: Our horses are excellent listeners and will not judge you for talking to them the entire ride.

Let’s be honest, you can eat hot dogs and battle mosquitoes any weekend. This Memorial Day, why not do something memorable? Come meet our elite team of off-road transit specialists, they have four legs, an excellent sense of direction, and a strong preference for carrots. 🥕🐴

We tried explaining the concept of a 'federal holiday' to the herd, but the union representative (Rocco) just sneezed on the calendar and walked away. So, due to a total lack of cooperation from our four-legged staff, we are NOT taking Memorial Day off. Each Thursday, we’re picking one blazer from the herd to showcase their unique stats, their trail superpowers, and the little quirks you’d only know if you were in the saddle. Dust off your boots, it’s time to meet the crew

The Profile: Chester
• Breed/Age: Tennessee Walker, 2008 Model (18 years old)
• Color/Gender: Chestnut, Gelding
• The "Brave" Factor: If you think your horse is bombproof, meet Chester. He literally does Civil War reenactments. While most horses would launch into orbit at the sound of a firecracker, this guy stands steady while actual cannons are exploding right next to him. A rogue grouse on the trail? Please. He’s seen battlefield smoke.
• Job in the Herd: Chief Snack Quality Controller: He’s the horse who inspects every pocket, bag, and bucket for treats before the ride can begin.

Fast Facts:
• Secret Talent: He has a hydraulic ear system! Every time he takes a gulp of water, his ears flip backward and forward in perfect sync with the swallow. It’s like watching a stereo equalizer move to the beat of his hydration.
• Favorite Trail Snack: Carrots
• Trail Best Friend: McCabe
• Trail Skill: He’s the ultimate trail commuter. While some horses debate the physics of entering the trailer, Chester steps right up without a second thought. Not only does he load perfectly, but he proudly takes on the manager role, willingly loading first to take the tightest spot at the very front so the rest of the herd feels safe following him in.

Did You Know?
Because of his solid coat color, Chester is officially casted as a Union Army horse during his reenactments! He is frequently chosen for the prestigious job of carrying the Union flag into battle. He wears the blue colors proudly and looks every bit the part of a historic cavalry hero. 🇺🇸⚔️

The Profile: Bocephus aka Beau
• Breed/Age: Tennessee Walker, 2014 Model (12 years old)
• Color/Gender: Chestnut, Gelding
• The "Brave" Factor: Beau is one of our field trial horses so he’s completely happy to have dogs running around him!
• Job in the Herd: The Professional Tail-Follower- He has a PhD in "Following the Butt in Front of Him." No thoughts, just vibes and a steady rhythm.

• Secret Talent: He in a master in Physics. He knows exactly which angle to rub against the fence post to pop a snap or slide a crownpiece over his ears without undoing a single buckle.
• Favorite Trail Snack: Apple flavored treats

• Trail Skill: He knows exactly how big he is and makes sure to give himself and his rider room while navigating through narrow trails. No need to worry about hitting your leg against a tree with this guy!

Make memories that last longer than a bouquet of flowers, forget the breakfast in bed (and the messy kitchen that comes with it), this year, give Mom what she really wants: fresh air, breathtaking views from horseback, and some peace and quiet on the trails! 🌲🐴

Whether she’s an experienced rider or a total beginner, our gentle horses and expert guides will make sure her special day is one for the books.

While our trails are quiet for the season, the horses are still getting into the spooky spirit—tricks, treats, and just a touch of mischief. (We suspect someone TP’d the hay bales… looking at you, Prissy.)
