We ❤️ our ODAAT family we have created over the years.
George Eckerdt adopted our boy, Gunnar in 2016. He was truly Gunnar’s savior and best friend. Gunnar was set to be euthanized because of a marital dispute. He would have been dead and that would have been a travesty. Gunnar lived an amazing, full life with George. He went everywhere with his dad, work, vacations… no matter what the day held, Gunnar was by his side. Sadly in November, George lost Gunnar to bone cancer. 💔
Over the years George who is not on Facebook, has kept us updated via mail and email. We have spoken on the phone numerous times and he even brought Gunnar by to see us. He has allowed us to watch Gunnar's journey with him and we cannot help but smile knowing how very loved he was. We are so extremely happy to say that, even though he did not adopt from ODAAT, he has adopted! This very lucky boy Quincy from Pen Yan Animal Shelter has no idea how wonderful life can be... but he is about to find out thanks to George opening his heart and home to yet, another failed dog!
Dogs never live long enough... but we truly believe that is so that more dogs can experience the same love and care that George gave Gunnar. The hole in our hearts from their loss will never be healed, but adopting another pup in need will certainly help the heartbreak... and for that one dog, it will change their lives forever.
We cannot wait to watch Quincy's journey with George!

The truth: I'm not stealing. I'm accidentally creating your future forest.

Did you know?
I bury 3,000 nuts every fall and forget where I put 74% of them.
Those "forgotten" nuts become your future trees. I can jump 10 feet horizontally and 4 feet vertically. My tail acts as a parachute, blanket, and communication device. I plant more trees than most conservation programs. One of me can reforest 25 acres in my lifetime. 🐿️ ♥️

This SATURDAY, JUNE 6th, the baking ladies are setting up their bake sale at Hornung's Ace for One Dog at a Time, 11-2p. Weather looks hot, so we'll be inside with some delicious chocolate cake, breads, butterscotch treats and, of course, homemade dog treats and catnip pillows for your furry family members.

The Zasadni’s popped by the rescue with some donations from Purina. They played with our girl, Lily and were nice enough to deliver cat supplies to our fosters in the Harrisburg area.
We really enjoyed spending time with them and truly appreciate all their hard.

Last week, there was a very sad incident where a momma cat and one of her babies were killed, leaving 3 orphaned babies too young to eat on their own. The owner put out a plea for help and Danielle Riglin offered to bottle-feed until rescue was found. One Dog at a Time ODAAT was involved through a separate situation and reached out to Danielle to see if she needed any supplies. We took food and other supplies to her because we truly appreciated her helping them.
We were able to secure rescue for these babies through our wonderful friends at PAWS of Harrisburg area. A plea for transport was posted and our first-time volunteers, Shun and Melanie Harbold offered to transport these babies to their foster. Momma Chris, over an hour and a half away!
These babies are safe because of teamwork, compassion, and empathy. Together, we can make a change every single day. Volunteers save lives!
