FUN FACT FRIDAY!
Did you know... because a bloodhound's sense of smell is so sensitive and accurate, the results of it's tracking can be used as evidence in a court of law.

The Bloodhound is widely considered the best tracking dog due to its exceptional sense of smell and persistence in following scents. Other top breeds for tracking include the Basset Hound, Beagle, German Shepherd, and Labrador Retriever. These breeds are known for their keen noses, trainability, and dedication to the task. No one "nose" smells like the Bloodhound!

Cats love the taste of sweet things.

The answer is FALSE. Cats do not the taste receptor for sweetness! Cats have a unique sense of taste, with a limited number of taste buds compared to humans. They primarily taste sour, bitter, salty, and umami; but lack the ability to taste sweetness. Their sense of taste is less developed than their sense of smell, which plays a more significant role in their food preferences. While many cat owners will say that their cats enjoy the taste of ice cream, whipped cream, or other sweet treats; they are likely enjoying the fat content instead. Skip the dairy for your cats as many are somewhat "lactose intolerant" and lack the enzyme needed to digest dairy. Stock up on your cat's favorite treats as a healthy alternative!

You've been asking, and we heard you! We are now carrying Bravecto Quantum, the year long flea and tick prevention injection. While Bravecto Quantum has been used overseas for a few years already, it is newly FDA approved and available for your dog today.

BRAVECTO QUANTUM kills adult fleas and is indicated for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis) and for the treatment and control of tick infestations [Ixodes scapularis (black-legged tick), Dermacentor variabilis (American dog tick) and Rhipicephalus sanguineus (brown dog tick)] for 12 months in dogs and puppies 6 months of age and older.

(Dogs receiving Bravecto Quantum must be 6 months of age or older, and have a current annual exam with one of our veterinarians as Bravecto Quantum is a prescription based prevention).

Today, August 15th, is "Check the Chip" Day! Microchipping pets is an excellent safety measure to help animal welfare professionals try to reunite them with their owners if they become lost. A microchip is very small (about the size of a grain of rice) and is implanted into the skin via syringe. Once implanted, it is able to be scanned by veterinary hospitals, animal shelters, and rescue organizations to contact the microchip registration company and get in touch with the pet's owner. If your pet is already microchipped, be sure to update the registration information anytime you move or change contact information!
