We have been totally slammed this week with Trainwreck after Trainwreck.
First, I need to tell you the story of our Benjamin Buttons. Every moment he is with us, he just seems younger.
We got a call from one of our partners, who like so many are at no intake. They had got an emergent call from someone, and, we were trying to talk through options to get a direction to go. When she said the person that had these dogs said they would be shot if they weren’t picked up immediately we said we would help. We took one and she had a plan for the other. She moved quickly to get this dog to us.
When I saw a picture, I immediately called our volunteer Haley Schwartz, who is always ready to help volunteer to groom/clean up and generally make any of our guests feel better!
When he got to the Puppy Pad, he was pitiful. We worked on him for a couple hours with Haley and her clippers!!
Just for reference… We could not find one of his eyes until we cut away a lot of matting that was attached all around the eye... And, when Haley shaved a large group of mats in one place off him, we were trying to see if it was a male or female, we noticed a tubing that appeared to be coming out him - a male, going to another matted area around and through so many mats to his foot mats. This tubing looked like a tendon from a chicken but was actually hair! So, when he urinated, it went through the matting and down to his foot. Yes, she had to shave huge chunks of mats from everywhere on this poor soul.
We gave him some ACE and called Falyn Smith, an angel groomer who works at a local vet clinic AND has her own business Boujee Babes Pet Spa, and is just down the road. She worked for about 5 more hours to get this fellas feet showing, bathe him, and then her husband, an off duty fireman graciously cleaned and wrapped a wound area to help us keep it clean until the vet opened.
When we got him to our house after dark, we took him for a walk. His legs are bent/deformed from years of neglect and having to walk how he did from the matting. His muscles have atrophied, so he was unsteady. But, he proudly hiked his leg to go p*e on the first tree he came to.💞 When he went to run after – he was so happy - he stumbled and fell, but his joy was apparent.
We are not sure where this dog is from as the partner handled all of that. But we are so grateful he is no longer where we he was.
He is at our vet’s now getting checked on and the immediate things handled. He is just going to stay with a foster for now, so he can learn about life being lived and loved on.
These pictures tell the story better than I can.
Our vet is Meredith-Warner Animal Clinic Clinic if you would like to donate so we can continue to help dogs and cats in need. PayPal [email protected].
We have more that I will be posting about soon.
But here is precious Benjamin who is starting his NEW journey.
Thank you.
