A special thank you to Powder River Golden Retrievers, pictured here with Gary, for generously donating Flash and giving him the very best start.

Gary will be raising Flash for the next few weeks before handing him off to Volunteer Puppy Partners at UTK (VPP) socializers Samantha and Marissa, who will continue raising him when he heads to the UT Campus in August. 🧡

We’d like to give a HUGE thank you to the American Valor Foundation for yet another beyond-generous donation!

What do popcorn, a spoon, a wooden dowel, and a leash all have in common?🤔

They're all helping Reggie become a service dog! 🐕‍🦺

Each of these may look like a simple training exercise, but every one has a purpose. In one exercise, Reggie is learning to ignore tempting distractions like dropped popcorn. In another, he's practicing retrieving all kinds of everyday objects, including wooden dowels, spoons, and even his own leash. These exercises prepare him for the everyday tasks his future handler may need.

Reggie is also strengthening psychiatric service dog skills like Anchor and Rest, which provide grounding, comfort, and deep pressure therapy for his future handler.

And if you ask Reggie his favorite skill? It's definitely Bump. If there's a light switch nearby, he's always ready to show it off. 💪

Every skill starts with small steps, plenty of rewards, and gradually raising the criteria as Reggie becomes more confident. Those distinct training moments become dependable skills that will one day help change someone's life.

Safe to say Reggie didn't pop under pressure. 🍿💚 Let him know he's rocking it in the comments!
