🕑 🕑 March 10, 2024 🕑 🕑
Daylight Savings returns and we move the clocks forward an hour.

Now's the perfect time to tackle those little (but important) home chores you've been procrastinating.

😴 Springing forward and losing an hour of sleep. Adjust your schedule to get the rest you need before traveling. Don't drive drowsy. According to Virginia 2023 preliminary data, 23 people were killed and 1,604 were injured in 3,152 crashes involving drowsy drivers.

🧯 Change the batteries in your smoke detectors.
You've likely heard this one before, but it's worth repeating. Take the time to make sure your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are in working order and have fresh batteries. Flames can consume a home in as little as five minutes, and the risk of dying in a fire is cut in half in homes with working smoke alarms.

🩹 Check your emergency kit. If you've depleted your supply of flashlight batteries, bandages and other just-in-case items over the past six months, use this time to restock.

**4 March 2024**
Heartfelt condolences to the family, fellow first responders, and community of fallen Loudoun County firefighter Trevor Brown.

The life of the volunteer firefighter who was killed in a Sterling, Virginia, home explosion in February will be celebrated today, March 4th. Services for Trevor Brown are slated to start at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, according to a Friday news release from Loudoun County Fire and Rescue. Brown had been a member of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company since 2016. He leaves behind a wife and three children.

Service organizers are expecting over 3,000 people, including fire and rescue crews from all over the region, to attend the service. The fire department said those attending should park at Segra Field because parking will be limited at Cornerstone Chapel. A shuttle service will start taking mourners to the church at 7:30 a.m. More detailed parking information is available online. The department asks people to arrive early, so the procession arrival and honor guard activities can start at around 9:30 a.m.

❗❗The City of Leesburg expects traffic impacts from the service to last from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. City officials recommend that drivers plan ahead and take other routes.❗❗ Road and lane closures around the church will start at 6 a.m. and last untl 3 p.m. Those include Tolbert Lane, Sycolin Road, and Battlefield Parkway. This is not far from ACA so plan accordingly and check traffic often if you are in the area.

2024 February 29
Last night (29th), two vehicles entered A Click Above parking lot and broke the windows of two vehicles to steal valuables. We are once again saddened that our trust and sense of security has been violated. We have cameras and provided photos of the vehicles and incident.
MAKE IT A HABIT:
Take your vehicle's key; Close and lock all windows and doors; Never leave valuables in your vehicle, especially if they can be seen from outside the vehicle.
We'd like to remind everyone to be diligent and aware of your surroundings while on A Click Above property. Please bring valuables inside, lock your vehicle, and if you see something suspicious notify an instructor (or police) immediately.

🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️🐕🐩22 February 🐕🐩🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️
National Walk Your Dog Day!
This day combines two of the most happy-making things we have in this life: dogs and exercise. Humans love walking with their four-legged friends, and pooches love their strolls with their people. So grab your walking shoes, a leash, and some treats for the road, and take your favorite pooch for a stroll to celebrate National Walking the Dog Day!
NATIONAL WALK YOUR DOG DAY ACTIVITIES
🦴Share a special treat🦴
Dogs love their treats, and one special way of rewarding them on this day is by providing a unique dog snack for them during their walk. Keep some treats in your pocket for spontaneous snack breaks or reward them with a favorite snack at home.

🌲🌳Try a different trail🌲🌳
Dogs love exploring new terrain. If you are a city dweller, venture out to the nearest nature park, or simply try a different route than normal. Your dog will love exploring the new sights, scents, and sounds.

🐾🐾Take a walk🐾🐾
Don’t have a dog of your own to walk on National Walking the Dog Day? Maybe it’s time to remedy that by visiting your local animal shelter. Take some dogs in need of adoption on a stroll, or even better, ask about adopting, and enjoy walking the dog, every day.

WHY WE LOVE NATIONAL WALK YOUR DOG DAY
🌞The perfect start to the day🌞
Is there any better way to begin the day than by going on a walk with your dog? Picture a cup of coffee in your hand, your dog’s leash in the other, dew on the grass and the sun coming up over the rooftops. It’s a great way to get your blood flowing, your mind moving, and for you and your dog to get some light exercise before breakfast.

🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️The best bonding exercise🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️
Walking the dog offers an opportunity for dogs and their people to connect while exploring the neighborhood together. A dog on a walk is also a great way for humans to meet each other, and for dogs to socialize with other animals out on walks of their own.

😇A well-walked dog is a calm dog😇
Dogs have a lot of energy and need to exert it daily. If a dog has not been walked, he may become restless and cause chaos around the home. We love taking our dogs for as many walks as possible to ensure that their time at home is relaxing and restful.

2024 February
🏆Congratulations 🏆 to all the A Click Above handlers and their dogs who competed in the Mid-Atlantic Australian Shepherd Club (MAASC) Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA) agility trial held at ACA 16-17 February. The next trial at ACA will be 10-11 August 2024.

Laura Senska and Rowdy: Rowdy earned his jumpers novice title with the local ASCA club, the Mid-Atlantic Australian Shepherd Club (MAASC). Despite the name, the trial welcomes all breeds and allows For Exhibition Only (FEO) runs in all classes. FEO allows a handler to train their dog in the ring using a toy. The MAASC holds three events annually at A Click Above and provides a fun-filled environment to trial in and learn more about the wonderful sport of dog agility. They also allow you to sign up to run on the day of the trial. The club members and event attendees are welcoming to all. I highly recommend their trials as a great place to start trialing.

Maris Duran and Ollie: “Ollie and I had a wonderful experience at the ASCA trial held at A Click Above in Leesburg. Its a great event and venue that caters to both young and experienced dogs of all breeds. We are definitely participating at their next event"

How to keep your pets safe during New Year’s Eve celebrations

Ringing in 2024 may be exciting for humans but it can be frightening for dogs with all the loud noises.
Fireworks are one of the biggest ways the new year is celebrated every year similar to July 4.

Here are some tips for keeping your pet safe this year:

Petting your dog -- If you or someone else is able to stay home with your pet, keep them in a safe room. That is a room with the least amount of windows.
It is also a good idea to give them a little extra affection.
Play music or put on a movie to cover up the noise. You can also give them a treat that takes some time to chew or a KONG with peanut butter to keep them busy.
Use a Thundershirt. A Thundershirt is like a weighted blanket that your dog wears.
Cats and dogs like a place where they can hide whether it’s under your bed or in a cozy crate.
Take them for a walk before it gets dark.
Make sure your dog has an updated collar with an ID tag in case anything happens.
If you are celebrating the new year elsewhere and leaving your dog at home, make sure all exits are closed off, food and medication are put away and make sure your pet is comfortable.

12/30/2023

We are ready to close 2023, it’s time to look ahead to the new year and start setting goals for you and your canine team in 2024. Setting high-quality goals—and crushing them—is more than possible. In fact, it’s well within your grasp and ACA wants to hear them and help.

5 Essential Guidelines
1. Be specific.
What do you want to achieve? Get down to the nitty-gritty and be super specific when you answer that question. Also, look out for any roadblocks that could keep you from reaching your goal, and make a plan to knock them out of the way.
Questions to ask yourself: What am I trying to accomplish here? Why do I want to make this goal happen?

2. Make goals measurable.
This one goes hand in hand with making your goals specific. If a goal isn’t measurable, then you have no way of knowing when you’ve accomplished it.

3. Give goals a time limit.
It’s important to set a time limit—because you need a finish line. Take that goal of yours, create a plan, and break it all the way down into daily activities. Then, give yourself a deadline. Hint: Planners like the Q Coach 2024 Dogged ULTIMATE dog planner to set your goals, schedule trials, capture dog information, track progress, and MORE!. They’ll help you manage your schedule, grow as a canine team, and crush your goals—no matter what they are.

4. Goals need to be yours.
Let’s be honest—trying to go after someone else’s goals for your life never works out. Sure, your breeder might want you to finish certain titles. But it won’t happen unless you want it to. Why? Because working hard to win isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s tough. And you won’t have the drive to stick with it if you’re working toward a goal you’re not even passionate about.

5. Put goals in writing.
Something special happens when you write down specific goals. So get those goals down on paper, along with all the steps it’ll take for you to make them happen. Seeing your goals in black and white will help you hold yourself accountable and track your progress along the way.

Our Philosophy

A Click Above, LLC is a partnership built on passion and excellence. Our combined expertise spans several decades (more than we care to admit!) and across many venues - from agility to obedience to breed and beyond.

We employ positive reinforcement and operant training methods to achieve our impressive results. "Clicker training" is at the heart of this philosophy and enables us to teach everything from basic manners to tricks to complex handling. We believe everything for the dog - and handler - should be fun and enjoyable.

Most of our classes have multiple instructors to ensure each student gets the time and attention needed to build rewarding partnerships that will last a lifetime.

Our facility has one indoor building with sprint turf footing measuring 100' x 125'. We are able to divide the area to safely hold two concurrent classes with enough room left for crating. The building is fully heated in winter and air conditioned in summer, providing both dogs and handlers the ability to comfortably train year-round.
