2022 was amazing for the springers! Ila had her debut in agility and made her way into the excellent classes before her 2nd birthday.
Gee has gotten enough double q's to qualify for Nationals and earned her CDX with placements. So thrilled to have trained my dogs in a facility that values safety and fun for the dogs and handlers. Both my obedience and agility instructors have fostered growth in my handling of my dogs.
Gee and Ila are owned and handled by ACA instructor Janet Kolakoski. Ila is Gee’s daughter and was bred by Janet.

**IN THE NEWS: DOG FLU**
Many area veterinarians are warning their patients about the potential for an outbreak of canine flu. ACA has been fortunate to not be affected AND we thought this would be a good time to remind students to not bring your dog to class if he/she, or any of your pets, has been exhibiting the following symptoms: vomiting, coughing (particularly gagging cough), excessive sneezing, diarrhea, or any other form of illness. We care about the health of our own pets and our students’ pets. Help us to maintain a healthy and safe training environment.
The below information is copied from the AKC webpage. We encourage you to seek all medical advice from your veterinarian.
When it comes to the dog flu, it’s important to always be prepared. While most cases are not fatal, the canine influenza virus can make your pup uncomfortably sick, causing them — and you — a lot of stress and time spent at the vet’s office. If you are a dog owner, you don’t need to panic about the dog flu. You should, however, familiarize yourself with the symptoms so that you know what to look for in the event of an outbreak in your area.
What Is Dog Flu?
Dog flu, or canine influenza virus, is an infectious respiratory disease caused by an influenza A virus, similar to the viral strains that cause influenza in people. There are two known strains of dog flu found in the United States:
H3N8
H3N2
The H3N8 strain actually originated in horses. The virus jumped from horses to dogs, becoming a canine influenza virus around 2004, when the first outbreaks affected racing Greyhounds at a track in Florida.
H3N2, on the other hand, originated in Asia, where scientists believe it jumped from birds to dogs. H3N2 is the virus responsible for the 2015 and 2016 outbreaks of canine influenza in the Midwest and continues to spread throughout the United States.
How Is Canine Influenza Spread?
Like human forms of influenza, dog flu is airborne. Respiratory secretions escape into the environment in the form of coughing, barking, and sneezing, where they are then inhaled by a new canine host. The dog flu also spreads through contaminated objects and environments, like water bowls, collars, and kennel surfaces, or through contact with people who have had direct contact with an infected dog.
Crowded areas like kennels, grooming parlors, daycare centers, and dog parks are breeding grounds for diseases like canine influenza. The close proximity of the dogs means that a barking, coughing, or sneezing dog can easily infect canines around them. This is made more dangerous by the fact that dogs are most contagious during the incubation period before they start exhibiting symptoms.
How Long Are Dogs Infected With Dog Flu Contagious?
The incubation period of canine influenza is approximately two-to-four days from initial exposure to the dog flu virus. Viral shedding starts to decrease after the fourth day, but dogs with H3N8 remain contagious for up to 10 days after exposure, and dogs with H3N2 remain contagious for up to 26 days. Most vets recommend isolating dogs with H3N2 for at least 21 days to reduce the risk of transmission.
Almost all dogs that come into contact with the disease will contract it, but not all dogs that become infected show symptoms of the virus. About 20-25 percent of dogs infected are asymptomatic, but these dogs can still spread the disease. If one of your canine companions catches the flu, but the other seems unaffected, remember that he could still have the virus. Talk to your vet about quarantine procedures for all dogs in your household.
Symptoms of Dog Flu
So, how do you know if your pup has dog flu? There are several symptoms all owners should be aware of. Dog flu cases range from mild to severe and, unlike human influenzas, are not seasonal. Keep an eye out for the following symptoms year-round:

National Walk Your Dog Week is observed between October 1 to 7. Is your pooch a fan of getting outdoors and taking a walk? If that is the case, this week is an ideal time to play outdoors. You and your dog may join a nationwide celebration highlighting the advantages of walking together. Therefore, it is time to get out those shoes and prepare your puppy’s paw pads for National Walk Your Dog Week. This time serves as a reminder to pet owners that exercise is critical for the health of their canine companions.
🦃 2022 AKC Fit Dog Turkey Trot 🦃
It’s almost Thanksgiving! AKC recently announced the second annual AKC FIT DOG Turkey Trot. The AKC FIT DOG Turkey Trot is a virtual 5K (3.1 miles) that people do with their dogs. This non-competitive 5K Turkey Trot can be done all at one time, or in smaller segments on multiple days so that everyone (people and dogs) can participate at their own pace. This can be a walk or run activity.
Proceeds will be donated to the AKC Humane Fund (http://www.akchumanefund.org/). This is the time of year to give thanks for what we have and to help others. The AKC Humane Fund assists women’s shelters that accept pets, supports the AKC’s Rescue Network to help rescue dogs, and promotes responsible dog ownership through outreach and education.
🦃 This Turkey Trot can be done anywhere that you and your dog are welcome to walk/run – in a local park, on a trail, or in your neighborhood.

ALL CLASSES CANCELED 26-29 September
✋ COVID is making the rounds for in our agility community. 🐾 A Click Above 🐾 has had a few students and a couple of instructors who have tested positive for 🦠 COVID 🦠 and have symptoms. They may have exposed others to the virus before realizing they were positive.
🛑 In considering exposure students may have already had and possible spread we have decided to cancel classes for this coming week - September 26-29, 2022. 🛑 We will add a class at the end of the session. Instructors are emailing classes to notify them of possible exposure and makeup dates.
Students should review CDC guidance on exposure, testing, and precautions.

Complete your online applications faster and track application progress online with your AKC account. To use TAP, dog owners will still have their CGC/STAR test forms completed by their Evaluators, then the dog owner will scan or take a cell phone photo of the form and send in their CGC/CGCA/CGCU/STAR forms online through TAP.
With TAP, the dog owner can submit the paperwork online, pay the fee online, and check on the progress of the processing of their title.
Dog owners may still mail in the paper forms as an option.
Nothing changes related to the process for how Evaluators test the dogs or give the paperwork to the dog owners.
AKC Trick Dog has been up and running for a few months on TAP and dog owners are loving it!

A Click Above, LLC is a partnership built on passion and excellence. Our combined expertise spans several decades (more than we care to admit!) and across many venues - from agility to obedience to breed and beyond.
We employ positive reinforcement and operant training methods to achieve our impressive results. "Clicker training" is at the heart of this philosophy and enables us to teach everything from basic manners to tricks to complex handling. We believe everything for the dog - and handler - should be fun and enjoyable.
Most of our classes have multiple instructors to ensure each student gets the time and attention needed to build rewarding partnerships that will last a lifetime.
Our facility has one indoor building with sprint turf footing measuring 100' x 125'. We are able to divide the area to safely hold two concurrent classes with enough room left for crating. The building is fully heated in winter and air conditioned in summer, providing both dogs and handlers the ability to comfortably train year-round.
Our equipment is the latest available and maintained in top condition. We have complete rings for AKC, UKI and USDAA agility as well as AKC Obedience and Rally-O. We can accommodate Nose Work, Fly Ball and Free Style as well.
Pretty disappointed here. 2nd time I've set multiple alarms, reminders, etc. and I was online, logged in and hitting "F5" to refresh the page for Puppy Kindergarten Registration way before registration started...and within 10 seconds of opening...it was already Full/Waitlisted.
Serious question here: What other options are there? Clearly there is a supply and demand problem...and I couldn't have been online any sooner. Any recommendations? Referrals outside of A Click Above?
Is there a free to a good home table?
I have an open package of p*e pads. Maybe used 5 or so. It’s a pack of 100.
Hopefully roads are ok tonight (1/17) and I can bring with me if anyone needs/wants them.
