Yesterday we drilled in a simple seed mix where our cows spent most of the winter. The mix consists of forage peas, oats, sunflower, and purple top turnips. As well as medium red clover and orchard grass. The intention is for the pea, oat, sunflower to go a full season priming the microbial machine so the clover orchard grass can get established and come back stronger than ever next year.

Receiving these handmade, beautiful Thank You cards in the mail today put a smile on our face. Sometimes in the midst of the struggles we forget that the work we do is important and that there are people amongst us that appreciate it.

Thank You Midcoast Mainers 4H for bringing joy to our day - these cards reminded us of our reasons - and thank you to all the farmers out there pushing through!

Now that I have had a chance to catch up a bit I can share a little about last week. Aaron’s never ending desire to learn more about soil health and Regenerative Ag brought him to a Soil Health Conference in Pennsylvania. He had a chance to visit 3 different farms and talk to people from as far away as the Netherlands. Quite an experience I’d say.

Meanwhile, back at the farm I decided this time I was going to take on the farming. What an exhausting but rewarding week! Moving the cows, feeding the pigs and sheep and taking care of Tux without help felt like quite the accomplishment (minus one call for advice, Thanks Nat). I even took time to walk one of the cool paths the cows have created!
