A walk about last night led to a photo shoot. The herd in front of the fall foliage caught my eye. We are so thankful for these beautiful animals and all they provide ❤️

If you are out driving by the farm on Rte 106 in the next few days we ask that you slow down a bit and keep an eye out. The cows are closer to the roadside with some young calves and they occasionally slip out.
For example, this little fella thought taking a nap in the tall grass by the telephone poll was a good idea. Thankfully he was tired so I was able to give him some pats and move him back in.
Thanks in advance!

Last week Liz, Ember, and Becky went to the Big E as part of the Maine 4H team. I am so incredibly proud of Liz and her horse for the way they conducted themselves and for their hard work. So Friday I left behind the farm and the thousand and one jobs . Because of the three reasons that were in Mass. After all I wouldn’t hesitate to spend 10 hours in a tractor cab. And all those jobs were still at home waiting. Sometimes you just need to make the people you love be important task for the day.

We welcomed a group of 3rd and 4th graders to the farm yesterday. They learned a little about our history, soil composition and were able to see a few animals up close. Thankful to the teachers for integrating the community into education and bringing attention to local agriculture. We had a great morning!

Hope leading the charge - the mamas headed out for their grazing season today! It’s always so much fun watching them kick up their heels and let loose. Thankful for all they provide

Yesterday we drilled in a simple seed mix where our cows spent most of the winter. The mix consists of forage peas, oats, sunflower, and purple top turnips. As well as medium red clover and orchard grass. The intention is for the pea, oat, sunflower to go a full season priming the microbial machine so the clover orchard grass can get established and come back stronger than ever next year.

Multitasking today - spending time with the hubby and weight training with cedar logs for cow fencing.

Receiving these handmade, beautiful Thank You cards in the mail today put a smile on our face. Sometimes in the midst of the struggles we forget that the work we do is important and that there are people amongst us that appreciate it.

Thank You Midcoast Mainers 4H for bringing joy to our day - these cards reminded us of our reasons - and thank you to all the farmers out there pushing through!
