Big Walnut Creek Pony Club

Big Walnut Creek Pony Club: Looking to develop character, leadership, confidence, and a sense of community in the future horsemen of the United States.

Our Club is a local affiliate of the Heartland Region of the United States Pony Club. Big Walnut Creek Pony Club is dedicated to serving the youth of Indiana in pursuing a solid equestrian foundation through all levels of riding. Our activities include monthly mounted and unmounted meetings, regional and national competitions, winter horse care study groups, clinics, and cross country schoolings.

Meetings are held locally around the Indianapolis area, most often at Greystone Equestrian center north of Indy. New Members are Always Welcome!

Big Walnut Creek Pony Club had a team participate in the Midsouth Region Eventing Rally last weekend at Kentucky Horse Park in the hot weather and they all did great!! They placed a a team overall in 5th place and individually placed well as well! They really stepped up as a team-initially figuring out how to work as a team and then once they did-they really hit their stride-no HM issues on the last day of the rally-woohoo! Also, since it was so hot, there were not enough folks to help in the vet box on the last day and our kids stayed after their last rider went through to help fill the gap. Great job!! We are very proud of the kids!! Thanks to Mollie for her chaperone help, Eron for the coaching and Jessica for volunteering!!

That’s a wrap on 2025 Heartland Region Pony Clubs Camp at Hoosier Horse Park! Thankfully we had pretty smooth sailing this year-only rain to contend with (which made cross country and holding onto shoes a little challenging), but the kids had a great time! We are so grateful to our instructors Molly Rosin-Kinnamon Mandy Weissmann and Brynne Varvel-all the kids learned so much, despite the elements! Jessica Jones and Robin Driggers were our HM extraordinaire (and part time vet/farrier consultants)- we’re so appreciate their time! Thank you to Caitlin Kennedy for being our mounted games coordinator-that’s always a camp favorite! We also appreciate all the help organizing by Amber Walton. Congrats to the winners of the special awards during camp that our Region Youth Board sponsored-it was a hit! Special thank you to Dannette and Larry Morgan for keeping the kids hydrated and snacked up! The parents helped with food prep/serving—it takes a village!

Congratulations to Big Walnut Creek Pony Club that braved the cold and rain to participate in the Heartland Region Pony Clubs Dressage Rally yesterday!! Everyone did a fantastic job-both ponies and competitors were prepared and had fun. Thank you to those who came!

A big thank you to Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine & Veterinary Hospital for hosting our Big Walnut Creek Pony Club pony clubbers on Saturday at a leg dissection lab. They got to learn all about the bones, tendons, and other important leg structures of the horse. Superb job on the part of the volunteer vet students and faculty teaching our pony clubbers and thank you to Jessica Jones for organizing it for Heartland Region Pony Clubs!

BWCPC enjoyed our mock quiz prep-getting ready for this weekend!

BWCPC had our end of year party combined with a horse management lesson over the weekend. We were happy to celebrate all of our kids and their accomplishments along with our parent volunteers that help make it all happen-thank you all! For horse management-we took some tips from the USPC convention and practiced IM and Sub-Q shots on oranges and learned about diseases and vaccinations-definitely a fun one!

Big Walnut Creek Pony Club had a great time at the United States Pony Club 2025 Convention in Traverse City, MI this year-the kids visited the Horse Management and Anatomy rooms, learned about sports psychology and rider fitness, did some vaulting, took classes on HM lessons/teaching, and they are putting together a Region youth leadership program-lots of great stuff!!
