Bob, Excel Star Traveler, has embarked on his underwater treadmill therapy journey at UTCVM Equine Performance and Rehabilitation Center, marking a milestone in his rehabilitation.

As a three-day event horse, Bob is no stranger to pushing his limits, and this therapy is crucial to his recovery after undergoing major surgery.

Just as physical rehabilitation has revolutionized care for small animal companions, it's equally transformative for equines, highlighting the profound impact it can have on the wellbeing of animals of all sizes.

By harnessing the power of physical therapy, we can unlock a world of possibilities for our beloved pets, empowering them to thrive and reach new heights.

Bob is still having to meet weekly milestones in his post surgical program. He still isn’t out of the woods yet and still has mountains to climb. Dr. Crockett and Dr. Ursini are both hopeful for a positive outcome for Bob!

For those who have been asking about Bob, Excel Star Traveler, and wanting an update.

Last week after he had a tenoscopy surgery for an infected tendon sheath due to a w**d or plant migrant found in his leg, he is officially in a physical therapy program at UTCVM.

I transported him to Knoxville late Wednesday evening not knowing if Bob would need another surgery or that if he would ever return home. He went on a magical/miracle trailer ride that day. Bob was pretty upset about this too. Luckily, he bit the broom in the trailer and not me.

Having a sport horse is hard! Bob is a competitor, fighter, and enjoys showing off. Eventing isn’t for the faint of heart or those that joy ride.

On Wednesday, I was worried he was not coming home or if he did, he wasn’t going to be a competition sport horse any longer. Thursday morning we got great news and he was healing well from the surgery the week before.

I am happy to announce he went to UTCVM’s equine Rehabilitation program! You may ask why but Bob needs physical therapy multiple times a day. It was easier for me to leave him in the care of a sports medicine equine vet and their team. This means his chance of recovery is even greater! Bob wants to run and jump fences and not just eat grass!

Keep up the thoughts and prayers for him! He’s still not 100% out of the forest! Thank you to everyone who has been patient with me these last couple of weeks.

Don’t forgot about your pets this week and weekend coming up!

We are open Monday through Thursday of this week. We will be closed July 4th. If you are needing medication for them, contact us before Thursday afternoon.

July 4th and this weekend may be super scary for your pet(s). Please ensure they stay confined and indoors with the nation’s celebrations over the weekend.

Dr. Crockett will be available to help assist in urgent after hour end of life services if needed.

Thank you to all have commented! I truly appreciate it!

To those who know me…I am very sorry that I cannot be there for your pets and you right now. I am mentally exhausted due to an unexpected emergency of my partner and best friend below!

Please be patient with us over the next couple of weeks as we navigate! Dr. Jacobs will be helping out a lot which we are so thankful for her!

I’m not stepping away but just need some time to process everything. My staff is fully capable of handling everything for you. They can reach me. I hate to even post this but even us veterinarians can have bad days.

Please say a few prayers for this guy…he’s had a rough few days! His mom loves him a lot!
