Are you ready to bring home a new companion... or two? We have two snuggle bunnies just waiting to meet their forever human!

Matchbox and Rodeo were boarding with us when they found themselves abandoned. They are each desperately seeking someone they can shower with love and affection - could that be you?

They can be adopted together or separately. Give us a call and come have a meet and greet at our League City location.

Both dogs are spayed, up to date on vaccines, and are on heartworm prevention with negative test results. They have been in boarding with us since October, and there is no adoption fee.

Meet Gwen. Gwen was brought to Safari by the City of Baytown Animal Services following her stray hold.

This sweet, very friendly girl had multiple mammary masses with one very large one dragging behind back legs making it hard to walk. A normal canine body score is 5, but Gwen rated a mere 1-2 due to her malnourished condition. In fact, she was practically skeletal.

Euthanasia was recommended after her stray hold, but fortunately All Texas Dachshund Rescue (ATDR) graciously took her in and the City of Baytown Animal Services very kindly transported her to us on March 3rd.

Gwen's largest mammary tumor was removed surgically by Dr Garner, and ended up weighing 1 pound! She also had a few smaller mammary masses removed, then was given a transfusion of blood since she'd lost a lot and had significant non-regenerative anemia.

And as if this poor girl hasn't been through enough, she is also heartworm positive and will need to be treated.
Be sure to scroll through the photos to the last one where you can see her precious face - she's a doll who still wags her tail and greets everyone with kisses after all she's been through!

Meet Chita. This poor wisp of a dog (she's not even 6 lbs!) was hit by a car the week before last. As you can see it this radiograph, her pelvis is clearly broken. She had superficial lacerations at the hocks and stifles and severe bruising at the hocks and inguinal area. Fluid was noted at the lower abdominal cavity.

Since the RIGHT side pelvis is buckled with a fracture at the RIGHT ilium acetabulum and through the LEFT obturator, our orthopedic surgeon, Dr Garner, repaired the pelvic break with a plate. Dr Garner is a Founding Fellow of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) in Canine and Feline Orthopedics. Dr Garner is among the inaugural group of veterinarians in the United States formally acknowledged for advanced expertise in orthopedic medicine and surgery for dogs and cats.

Chita is doing well, and improves daily. Unfortunately, she now awaits a second surgery since finding she has a life threatening heartworm infestation requiring caval surgery. This entails extracting the heartworms from the right side of the heart and vena cava when the heartworm infestation is so massive that they physically block blood flow from the heart. The final two [graphic] photos are of a previous caval surgery done by Dr Garner. The heartworms can be seen in the sample jar and where they are being removed by Dr Garner.

Keep your paws crossed for tiny Chita for her upcoming surgery.

You can help pets in need!

When people imagine the hardest part of veterinary medicine, they think it’s medical cases. It isn’t. It’s watching a treatable pet suffer because someone cannot afford care.

The SAFARI Hope fund (Supporting Animals with Financial Assistance for Rescue & Intensive Care) exists for one purpose: to help pets receive necessary, life-saving treatment when cost is the only barrier. This fund will be used at the doctors’ discretion for emergency stabilization, critical medications, life-saving surgeries, hospitalization support, treatable infectious disease cases, and urgent pain relief. While we cannot cover every case fully, even partial assistance often changes the outcome from euthanasia to treatment.

Many pets just need a chance. Sometimes it’s a puppy with parvo that has a high survival rate with treatment. Sometimes it’s a blocked cat that will die without immediate care. Sometimes it’s a beloved family dog hit by a car. These are not rare situations, they happen constantly in veterinary medicine. This fund allows us to say, “We can help.”

Your support helps turn those moments into second chances. Together, we can keep more families from saying goodbye too soon. Thank you for helping us help them. Please visit our GoFundMe link to donate: https://gofund.me/f91da3f48
