Since Friends of Twin City Animal Shelter began working to save animal lives, o

ne of our most vital goals has involved raising awareness about spay and neutering. We were the first shelter in the Black Hills to make sure that every animal that leaves our shelter is spayed or neutered. This very important step could not have been possible without the support and generous financial assistance of the Cities of Lead and Deadwood. One of our long-time supporters established the West River Spay Neuter Coalition to assist pet owners in communities outside of Lead/Deadwood. In addition, we provide caring pet owners with financial assistance for spay and neuter. Our work has made a substantial difference in pet overpopulation in our area.

RATCHET is a gentle cutie that was part of the huge cat rescue by Heartland Animal Rescue. He is 1 year old, neutered and vaccinated and ready for a loving home. He should probably be an indoor cat as his eyesight is slightly impaired due to an eye infection when trapped as a kitten. Look at that face!! I myself have a cat that was born blind and have had him for 14 years. They arent much different than regular seeing cats, but should be kept indoors or on a leash. Adoption is by donation. Call Michelle at 605-569-9000 to meet him.

He was just a year old when his life was about to end.

Meet Buzz 🐾

Sick with pneumonia and Bordetella, his tiny body was failing. His sister had already passed, and the decision had been made by the humane society to schedule him for euthanasia. When I arrived with him, the catheter was placed. Everything was ready.

Then the vet paused and asked, “Would you give him a chance?”

I said yes.

What followed was a fight for his life—45 days of treatment, and he beat pneumonia and Bordetella. Then came another devastating diagnosis: FIP.

Again, we fought. Another 85 days of medication, care, and hope.

And today… Buzz is alive. Healthy. Thriving. ❤️
(And as you can see—he’s pretty proud of himself.)

This little fighter is now ready for his forever home.

Sometimes, all it takes… is one more chance.

📩 Message us if you’re interested in giving Buzz the home he fought so hard for.

Check out this beautiful girl! Her coloring is gorgeous. If you cannot adopt, please share to help find these cats a home and/or send them supplies or donations. She is our pet of the week that we are sponsoring for Heartland Animal Rescue. Molly is 1 year old, spayed and vaccinated and ready for a loving home. Adoption fee is by donation which we hope would be generous. She is located at Heartland Animal Rescue. Call Michelle at 605-569-9000 for more info and please check out their page and see what this rescue is enduring because people are not spaying and neutering.
