🐾 Pet Care 101 Monday: Crate Training Matters (Especially for Travel!) 🐾

With travel season coming up, now is the perfect time to talk about one of the most important life skills your dog can have: crate training.
A crate should never be a punishment—it’s your dog’s safe space! When introduced properly, it becomes a place where they can relax, decompress, and feel secure no matter what’s going on around them.

āœˆļø Why crate training is so important:
āœ”ļø Safer travel: Whether you’re taking a road trip or flying, a crate keeps your dog secure and prevents distractions or injuries in case of an accident
āœ”ļø Emergency preparedness: In emergencies (evacuations - tornado season guys!!!!, vet stays, boarding etc), dogs often have to be kenneled. A crate-trained dog experiences less stress in these situations.
āœ”ļø Reduces anxiety in new environments: Hotels, family homes, or busy gatherings can be overwhelming. A crate gives your dog a familiar place to settle.
āœ”ļø Helps prevent destructive behavior: When you can’t supervise (not only while traveling), a crate keeps your dog safe and out of trouble.
āœ”ļø Supports potty training & routine: Crates naturally encourage bladder control and help maintain structure—even when schedules change.
šŸ’” How to start crate training (quick guide):
• Leave the crate open and let your dog explore it freely
• Toss treats, give them a special chew like a kong and feed meals inside to build positive association
• Start with short, positive sessions (door open at first)
• Gradually close the door for brief periods while you’re nearby
• Slowly increase time and distance as your dog becomes comfortable

Happy travel season!

I am back! Thank you everyone for your patience while I was recovering. I will still have to take it easy for a while and might not be able to get everyone back on the schedule this week but I am looking forward to seeing all of my furry friends and their humans again!

Please help if you can!

Update on my little ā€œhospital adventureā€ā€¦ ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹
I’m finally home!
The last few days have been a bit of a whirlwind. What started as ā€œmaybe gastritisā€ quickly turned into something much more serious. It turned out to be appendicitis with ileus—and my surgeon said my appendix had actually burst about 12 hours before I went to the hospital, and gangrene had already started to set in. I was very lucky I didn’t wait any longer.
Safe to say… I did not have that on my bingo card šŸ˜…
I’m home now, but still pretty sore and dealing with nausea (turns out not eating makes eating… a challenge šŸ™ƒ). I also have a drain in my abdomen for the next couple of weeks, which means I’ll need to take it easy for a bit.
šŸ‘‰ What this means for training:

No in-person private sessions for about 3 weeks
Group classes WILL still start as scheduled
The first two sessions of each class will be led by some amazing local trainer colleagues I trust completely šŸ™Œ

I’ll be easing back in as soon as I’m cleared, and I truly appreciate your patience while I heal.
I am incredibly grateful to be home with my family and my puppers 🐾
And to everyone who checked in, sent messages, or kept me in your thoughts—thank you. It means more than I can put into words.
Also, thank you all so much for sharing your dogs on my last post—those pictures absolutely made my days while I was stuck in the hospital šŸ’›
If I haven’t responded yet, please forgive me—I had a little something going on šŸ˜…
Thank you all for being such an amazing community šŸ’›
— Christina
