Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter

Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter Adoption, Strays and Rescue of Pets in Hart & Franklin Counties in Northeast Georgia We accept animals from Hart and Franklin Counties.
(335)

The Northest Georgia Animal Shelter is an open admission, non-profit Shelter, supported financially by private donations and funds from eight city and county jurisdictions. We often take in sick and injured animals, feral cats and wild dogs. In these cases, it is our obligation to humanely end the suffering of these animals. We strive to get all of our animals adopted, and often work with rescue g

roups and other local shelters to achieve this. Our maximum capacity is 160 animals. Currently our adoption rate is 30% and we are working hard every day to increase it. We also have a 50% RESCUE rate! Thanks to all the rescues that pull from us. We are very rescue friendly.

Dear Rescue Family and Supporters of the Hart County Humane Society,

For the past 21 years, I have been dedicated to providing affordable spay/neuter assistance and helping rescue animals in need. It has been an honor to serve alongside the volunteers, supporters, and advocates who share a commitment to improving the lives of animals in our community.

I am especially proud to be part of an organization whose mission aligns so closely with saving the lives of dogs and cats at Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter . Together, the Hart County Humane Society has helped rescue 7,827 dogs and cats and provided spay/neuter assistance to thousands of families, making a lasting impact throughout our region.

It is with a heavy heart that I share my decision to step away from my active role due to ongoing health concerns. This work has been more than a commitmentβ€” It has been a meaningful part of my daily life and a passion that has brought me great purpose and fulfillment.

I sincerely ask that you continue supporting the mission of the Hart County Humane Society and the animals cared for at Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter. Your compassion, generosity, and dedication are essential to ensuring that this important work continues for years to come.

I am deeply grateful for the friendships, support, and understanding I have received along this journey. The relationships I have built through this mission are a gift that I will always cherish.

Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving our community and its animals.

With heartfelt appreciation and gratitude,

Donna Madkiff
Founder and President

We often find that people confuse feral & stray. Our shelter (and many others) can’t take in feral cats. Knowing the correct term can make a big difference for some animals in need.

Pilots saving puppies is one of our favorite things! We couldn’t be more thankful for the rescue that saved our little royal family & the pilot that was kind enough to spend his day flying them to their rescue! These puppies are out of our overcrowded shelter thanks to No Paw Left Behind Animal Rescue & Pilots To The Rescue

πŸ‘… Tongue Out Tuesday! πŸ‘…

And boy, is this week off to a rough start.

We opened our doors this morning already over our target capacity and ended the day even further over, with a growing intake waiting list and an inbox full of stray reports waiting in the wings.

Folks, please be kind to animal welfare professionals. We are not okay.

Shelter staff across the country are trying to empty the ocean with a tablespoon in the middle of a downpour. Hearts break every single day, but the work continues because the animals need us. We did not create this crisis, and we are not the enemy. A lack of accountability is.

The reality is that shelters cannot solve pet overpopulation alone. We need our communities to help slow the flood.

Here’s how you can make a difference:

πŸ’‰ Microchip your pets AND register the chip. A microchip only works if the information is current.

πŸ‘” Use collars and tags. Even a simple collar with your phone number written in Sharpie can help a lost pet get home without ever entering a shelter.

βœ‚οΈ Spay and neuter. Reach out for assistance before puppies and kittens are born.

πŸ‘· Lend a hand. Share posts. Donate. Transport. Volunteer. Foster. Adopt.

Every action helps.

If you’re looking to add a furry family member to your home, please consider adoption. Visit Negas.org to meet the wonderful animals currently waiting for homes.

The animals need us. The shelters need you. ❀️

You have until next week to help us Phill the box fundraiser.
We will take clothes, shoes, purses, anything fabric.

We have just 19 days left in our Phill the Box Fundraiser! That’s only 19 more days to clean out those closets and turn unwanted items into lifesaving support for animals in need.

This is one of the easiest FREE ways to help displaced animals in Hart County and Franklin County. Every donation helps raise funds that will go directly toward food, shelter, and medical care for the animals who depend on us every day.

How It Works:

βœ”οΈ Clean out your closets
βœ”οΈ Gather clean, gently used clothing, bedding, shoes, and accessories
βœ”οΈ Bag everything up
βœ”οΈ Drop donations off at Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter
βœ”οΈ Head home and enjoy your clutter-free closet knowing you helped save lives!

Your unused items can make a real difference. Please donate, share this post, and help us Phill the Box before time runs out! 🐾

We are humbled and incredibly grateful for the generosity of the Arby’s locations in Lavonia & Commerce and their amazing patrons. Every person who chose to round up their purchase helped make this donation possible.

As a nonprofit shelter, we rely heavily on the support of our community to continue caring for the homeless animals that depend on us each day. This generous donation of $4,220.00 will help our operations tremendously and will directly support the animals in our care.

Thank you to everyone who contributed and to Arby’s for choosing to support our mission. Your kindness truly makes a difference.
