What to do if you find a tick on your dog.

Remain calm. I know it’s scary to find a tick on your sweet pup. But if you have a big reaction, your pup may get antsy and resist you… Making it harder to get the tick off them.

Use an ultra-fine-toothed comb or a special “tick key” to gently remove the tick.

Inspect the tick — if it’s missing a head, call your vet right away. That could be a sign the tick managed to bite into your pup… meaning they may need medical attention to prevent disease.

Do a thorough tick check when your dog comes inside.
After your pup spends time outside, remember to carefully look over these key areas of their body:
Armpits / behind knees
Ears
Eyelids
The base of their tail
The groin area
Under their collar
These are areas where your dog’s skin is thinner, warmer, and easier to bite…

Meaning they're a tick's favorite places to hide.

I’m so proud of how well he handled the environments and distractions. These real-life experiences are an important part of building a confident, well-rounded dog, and Bruce rose to the occasion beautifully. 🐶👏

🪲Tick Safety Tip #2
Use preventative measures.
Depending on how tick-heavy your part of the country is — you’ve got a few options to protect your pup.
An all-natural tick spray is a great place to start. (Look for gentle formulas made with eucalyptus, cedar, or geranium, which ticks hate.)
But if you’re in a high-risk area, your vet may recommend a tick collar, a pill, or another form of tick prevention.

As long as you stick with their advice, your dog should be safe!

Avoid tall grass and overgrown walking paths.
Ticks usually live in shaded, overgrown green areas.

That means you’re most likely to encounter them while walking your pup in parks, greenways, or paths through the woods.

But even a shaggy lawn can be home to ticks.

So if your pup spends any time in these areas — stay on high alert.
