Hoppin’ Hollow Rabbitry

Hoppin’ Hollow Rabbitry Our rabbitry started in 2023, and New Zealand reds became our primary focus in 2025.

Well, good thing we checked the forecast this morning and prepared. Still got pretty wet feeding rabbits though.

One of our young does went to her summer 4H home this weekend. We are excited to see how she does, and will probably be welcoming her back in the fall after her fair season ends. She still needs to learn to hold a pose, but I think she looks fairly decent when I have both hands on her. ❤️ Her biggest drawbacks in our eyes are a slightly tipped ear and a bit much color in the broken pattern. We hope she will perform well for her kid as a commercial rabbit anyway.

We’re looking forward to seeing how our foundational group of reds grow out! We have two exciting red does set for transport, and a couple of other rabbits may be coming soon for our side project.

If anyone is confused about the ages in the collages, it’s because some of them don’t have super up-to-date photos.

July Transport

Transport available!

We will be making two round trips to western Wyoming (near Jackson) this summer. Our first trip will be in July. We will head north July 3-4 or 4-5 and south sometime around July 12-13. We are open to going through either Utah or Colorado based on need and can make stops along the route.

Space is limited. Holes will be $75 for the first rabbit, then $50 for additional rabbits with the same pickup/drop-off contacts.

Here’s a photo for the people who think does will attack kits that aren’t theirs. Our does occasionally bicker amongst themselves, but everyone is fine with the babies no matter who they belong to. Three was being a great sport about Jiffy’s kit climbing all over her while I was feeding.

(The lid she’s sleeping on here was supposed to be garbage, but I forgot to take it with me and now it’s been claimed by the rabbits.)

Sometimes I get into a funk thinking “is it me? Am I just really bad at posing rabbits?” And I have to go get one of the couple I like more and remind myself “no, your rabbits just don’t look how you want them to look yet.” (Although yes, I know I still have a lot of room to improve.)

This rabbit sure isn’t making it easy for me to say goodbye to my Rex project, even though I know I should. She isn’t perfect, but she’s less imperfect than a lot of other rabbits in our program.

We’re starting with the stock we can get our hands on, and we’re excited to see what we can build from there. We’re still buying rabbits for some exciting New Zealand projects, and we’re debating what the future will look like for our Rex mixes. Things are slowing down for the summer, but stuff is still happening!

I have a broken red New Zealand buck who has already been culled for passing on eye issues, but I’m trying to figure out whether he is also passing self on. What do you guys think?

The older kits pictured are from a cross between him and a Rex mix harlequin doe. I note that those are harlequinized due to markings not visible in my photos. The younger photos are a pairing between him and his mom. Two seemed to have very dark pigment in their ears. Unfortunately we lost most of that litter and I can’t get pictures of how they turned out. The one broken red is a reference photo of what the ones without the darker pigment looked like.
