Imagine hating me over my training methods… and I’m just over here having fun with my dog. ✨

🚫 No force
🚫 No fear
🚫 No punishment

Just clear communication, games, relationship building, and a dog who genuinely wants to engage. 💛

One of the biggest misconceptions about force-free training is that we “let dogs do whatever they want.”

But real games-based training is about creating calm, thoughtful, confident behavior through learning — not intimidation.

Because compliance built through pressure might stop behavior in the moment, but learning built through trust creates lasting change.

Your dog does not need to be scared of making mistakes to learn.

They deserve to feel safe, capable, and understood while learning how to navigate the world. 🌎

Training is a whole lot more enjoyable for both ends of the leash when learning feels fun. 🎾🐶

Transform your dog’s behavior with games.

If walks with your puppy or adolescent feel hard then this post is for you.

Maybe your puppy:
😵🥞pancakes and refuses to move
🌱😋scavenges every piece of grass they can find
🚂💨pulls like a freight train the second you step outside

✅And honestly… I get it. It’s hard when we have all this outside noise from the wellness and fitness world — or watches on our wrists tracking steps — making movement feel like a competition with ourselves.

But puppy walks are not supposed to be endurance events. 😳🐕

Instead of focusing on the quantity of the walk, focus on the quality. 🤝

✅ For many puppies and adolescents, shorter walks (even just 15–20 minutes) paired with pattern games can actually lead to calmer, more successful outings because they’re not getting overwhelmed by the environment and instead are engaging with you.

One of my favorite ways to support this is using a long line and giving puppies more agency on walks. Let them sniff. Let them explore. Toss or scatter feed with treats. Play your favorite pattern games. Let them take in the world at their pace. 👃🎯

When dogs have safe freedom to explore, walks become enriching instead of stressful — and that’s where real learning happens.

✨Remember: walks are not just exercise. They’re learning experiences.✨

Emotional regulation in dogs is the ability to notice what’s happening in their environment and choose to not react in a way that affects their welfare, yours, and others. 🧠

In everyday life here in Lansing, this looks like your dog noticing distractions like other dogs, people, squirrels, bikes, cars, or neighborhood activity on a walk — and choosing to say they are really not that important. Not their job. Not their circus or their monkeys. 🚶‍♀️🌳

This is not about a dog “being calm all the time” or never reacting. This is where a lot of dog parents get tripped up in thinking they are not progressing in their reactivity journey if their dog still reacts. It simply means they can recover faster and make better choices over time. 🌱

At Raise The Woof, we use games-based training to build real-life emotional regulation — so dogs can move through the world with more clarity, confidence, and focus on you. We want them to find you as the most exciting thing in their world, and that is built through strong communication and collaboration.

If you're a Lansing Dog Parent and have been struggling with a dog who can’t choose you over distractions, we’d love to support you. 🤝🐶

Dear reactive dog parent,
I see:
❤️ The early morning walks to avoid triggers.
❤️ The rented sniff spots and private parks so your dog can finally exhale.
❤️ The treats stuffed into every pouch or pocket.
❤️ The distance you create before your dog gets overwhelmed.
❤️The classes, the training games, the constant scanning of the environment, and the quiet moments where you wonder if you’re doing enough.

But guess what...You are. 💛
Living with a reactive dog can feel isolating and exhausting sometimes — but it also means you are showing up for your dog again and again in ways most people never see.

✨ Every time you advocate for your dog
✨ Every time you choose patience over punishment
✨ Every time your dog recovers a little faster
✨ Every time they notice a trigger and choose to check in with you instead

Those moments matter.

Progress with reactive dogs is rarely linear, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.
Your dog is learning.
Your relationship is growing.

And all those small wins are building a bigger, safer world for both ends of the leash. ❤️ If this sounds like you, you’re not alone.

The greatest secret to a reliable recall… 🤫 It starts with tiny wins in easy environments. 🙌

One of the biggest reasons puppies struggle outside is because we skip ahead too quickly. The world is exciting, distracting, and FULL of things competing for your puppy’s attention.

Before we can expect reliability outdoors, we need to build value in choosing you — and make returning the BETTER DEAL. 💛

Here’s a simple way to start building a puppy that LOVES coming back when called ⬇️

✅ Start indoors or in a quiet space
Keep it easy at first so your puppy can succeed.

✅ Begin with short distances
Just a few steps away is enough in the beginning.

✅ Make coming to you FUN
Celebrate, play, toss treats, and make returning feel exciting and rewarding.

✅ Gradually add distractions
Practice in new places slowly before expecting success in busy outdoor environments.

✅ Use a long line outside
Long lines give your puppy freedom while keeping training safe.

Reliable “come when called” skills are built through games, repetition, and relationship — not force.

Bc when learning is fun, it lasts. ❤️

✨ Hear it from our students ✨

“Mandy is the best from her knowledge to her personality. We greatly enjoyed working with Raise The Woof for our two dogs on their different needs, and how she was able to tailor everything to each of them individually.”

Working with multiple dogs in one household can come with very different personalities, learning styles, and challenges — and that’s exactly where individualized training matters most. 🐾

Our goal is always to meet each dog where they are and build a plan that fits them, while also helping the humans feel confident handling both sides of the leash.

That often looks like:
✔️ Adjusting training strategies per dog
✔️ Supporting different behavioral needs in the same home
✔️ Building clarity and consistency for the humans
✔️ Strengthening communication between all family members

Because no two dogs learn the same way — and training should reflect that. 💚

For many puppies, being left alone is a big emotional experience — not just a behavior to ignore. 🚫

Early alone time is where we start building your puppy’s confidence and comfort with being by themselves. And how we handle those first moments matters.
Instead of pushing through the crying, we focus on helping your puppy feel safe:

⏱️ starting with very short, successful absences
📈 building duration gradually
🧠 creating positive associations with you leaving and returning
💤 teaching them how to settle

If your puppy is struggling with alone time, we’s love to support you in helping them feel safe and comfortable while you are away. Reach out to use today if you’re ready for support.

Happy Dog’s Mom Day to all the dog moms 💛
Today we celebrate you and everything you do to show up for your dog.

The early mornings, the extra patience, the “just one more walk” even when you’re tired… the way you notice their moods, adjust your day, and love them through their big emotions.

You do more than most people realize—and your dog feels that every single day.

If no one has told you lately: you’re doing a really good job.

Today is for you 🐾
For the love, the effort, and the bond you’re building every day on both ends of the leash.

Happy Dog Mom Day 💐
