Today at school pickup, my youngest came walking out wearing the sweetest little flower crown that one of her teachers had made for her.
As we were heading out, her friend from class, Ezekial (or “Zeke,” as she calls him ), was waiting with his mom, holding a little glass jar.
Zeke had found a jumping spider while playing outside yesterday, and he told his mom he wanted to bring it to his friend Leona in class. 🥹
His mom made sure to check with me first to see if it was okay before he gave it to her, and when she told me why they were waiting, my heart absolutely melted.
There’s just something so special about seeing little kids notice what makes their friends happy and go out of their way to share it with them. The fact that he remembered how much Leona loves spiders and wanted to save one just for her was the sweetest thing ever.
Moments like this remind me that what we do reaches so much farther than spiders. When I started this journey, I never imagined it would create connections like this and not just within our family, but among other children too. A little jumper sparked curiosity, kindness, and friendship. It became something a child was excited to share with another child simply because he knew it would make her happy.
As a parent, that’s one of the most rewarding parts of all of this. Seeing a love and appreciation for these tiny creatures ripple outward and create moments of connection, wonder, and compassion in the next generation is something really special.
So today, Leona got a flower crown, a surprise jumper, and we both got a reminder that friendship can be found in the tiniest moments.
And honestly, in my world I think we always need more boys bringing girls spiders. 😂❤️🕷️🤷🏻♀️
This sweet interaction gave me such a big reason to smile today. So tell me, what’s something that made you smile recently? I’d love to hear your little moments of kindness, joy, or unexpected sweetness!
