Some ways you can keep your pet's breath fresh include brushing their teeth with a pet-safe toothpaste (ex: Virbac C.E.T. Enzymatic Pet Toothpaste), giving dental treats or feeding a dental diet, using dental wipes, or using other products mentioned in the links below.
Most importantly, bringing your pet in for their regular wellness check-up so the doctor can examine their teeth, check for issues like broken teeth, gingivitis, abscesses, etc. Professional dental cleanings done under anesthesia may be necessary to remove tartar, extract a broken or painful tooth, or fix other problems of the mouth. After the procedure, keeping up with good oral hygiene at home is essential.

Signs of dental problems include but are not limited to, noticeably bad breath, loose or broken teeth, difficulty chewing or loss of appetite, excessive drooling, pawing at the mouth, discolored teeth. Some of these problems can be a sign of other health issues going on, so if you have concerns about your pet, big or small, give us a call to schedule an appointment with your vet.

Kennel technician, Tim, and sweet puppy, 🧡Midge,🧡 became friends the other week when Midge visited us for her booster vaccine. She enjoyed cheese whiz and snuggles.
Tim’s superpower is that all dogs love him. Big or small, happy or scared, Tim can get through to them all.

🐱Say ‘Meow’ to Dash.💚
This handsome 9 year old guy is named after Dash from the Incredibles
because as a kitten, he ran around in circles.
To this day, he still runs around in circles when he gets the zoomies.😆💚
He also loves eating.

Finding ways to help your senior dog be more comfortable during the grooming process is an important part of adapting to their age changes. Just like elderly people, senior pets are more vulnerable to sensory issues and injury, which can cause increased anxiety and fear. It may be more difficult for your dog to stand for the entire grooming process at age ten compared to when they were a young pup.

Some signs your senior dog may be struggling during a bath, haircut, or other part of the grooming process include but are not limited to: trying to escape/not wanting to be handled, irritable/aggressive behavior, pacing/panting, shaky legs, vocalizing.

Ways to support your Senior Dog During the Grooming Process:
-Let them decide what is comfortable for them (sitting or standing position or switching between the two)
-Use a non-slip surface
-Provide extra praise and/or treats for emotional support
-Focus on the priority areas first. (face, paws, bum)
-Go slow
-Quiet location
-Be patient and do your best. It doesn't have to be perfect! Your pet's comfort matters more than the perfect haircut or most thorough bath.
-If you take your dog to a professional groomer, talk to them about your concerns.
-If your pet needs more anxiety help during grooming, talk to your vet about different options like calming medications.

Caring for a senior dog has its many challenges, but it is also a gift. Enjoy good moments together each day.
